You think you know her . . .

The Kardashians are famous for letting it all hang out. Whether they’re moving cross-country, settling a family feud, dealing with heartbreak, or just having fun with one another, their lives are utterly relatable. No wonder America can’t get enough. But what have Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and the rest of the Kardashian clan got that we haven’t got? Off-the-charts beauty, millions of dollars, and Kris Jenner—the superstar mom and manager who made them into the family we can’t resist.

On Keeping Up with the Kardashians, we watch Kris do it all. She runs a household, manages her children’s successful careers, produces four television shows featuring her larger-than-life family, and still finds time to tweet to her fans. How does she manage to maintain her composure, enviable elegance, and unflappable sense of humor? After raising six children of her own, in addition to being a stepmother to four and a grandmother, multitasking is Kris’s way of life. But she would have never made it without her unwavering belief in God.

In this thoughtful, candid, and no-nonsense memoir, Kris Jenner is an open book about the good times and the rough patches. She shares the reality of living her hectic life in the celebrity spotlight, touching on topics that will resonate with women everywhere—love, loss, marriage, divorce, motherhood, and faith. Kris talks about her marriages to Olympic champion Bruce Jenner and Robert Kardashian, the late father of her four oldest children—and how it was Bruce who finally helped end the Kardashians’ messy divorce so they could all move forward as a family. She writes with candor and vivid insider detail about her close friendships with Nicole Brown Simpson and O.J. Simpson, as well as Nicole’s murder, its aftermath, and the infamous trial. She also puts her oftencontroversial parenting style under the microscope as she relates the details of her decision to make her charming family into an international brand with a blockbuster reality television franchise.

If you think your life is chaotic, try keeping up with Kris Jenner.

No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. I just gave Kris Jenner's memoir a whole four stars. I just couldn't help myself, okay? Even though I'm not a fan of the Kardashian family and I've never been able to bring myself to watch a full episode of their show, it truly is amazing how they built up their empire and basically turned the influencer lifestyle into an extremely lucrative, full-time job. I wish someone would fly me around on private plans to do brand deals and escort me into Coco Chanel's personal Parisian suite for a private tour. I'm fucking jealous.

Kris Jenner's memoir starts out with a cringey prologue about her and Kim going to Paris to see the aforementioned suite. But then it drops back about four decades, to her modest upbringing in San Diego/Oxnard. We learn about her alcoholic father, her alcoholic stepfather, her hatred of all things abalone due to her stepfather's abalone job (I didn't know abalone burgers were a thing but apparently Kris hates them), and then, her mother's humble candle business. To make matters worse, her stepdad's business partner ran off with like $12,000, which was a seriously fuck you amount of money back then.

It's obvious she always had some money coming in, and through her boyfriends and marriages, she quickly began rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. I had no idea that she and Robert Kardashians were such close friends with O.J. and Nicole Brown Simpson. A huge portion of this memoir is actually about that relationship, the domestic violence she thought she witnessed, and her absolute horror and despair following the murder and the trial. This was actually one of the more interesting parts of the book because it portrayed such a human side of her. I saw a couple reviews saying that she was milking it but I really didn't get that impression at all. She seemed conflicted, guilty, and horrified. Especially at how she "failed" her friend by missing red flags that seemed all too obvious in retrospect.

I was surprised that Kim Kardashian's sex tape wasn't mentioned at all (nor did she pay lip service to Ray J). A lot of people credit that tape for causing the interest in the Kardashian show so it was interesting that it was omitted here. Likewise, she mentions her anger at finding out that Kim Kardashian married her first husband as a teenager-- in secret-- as a teen and she basically had to Google it to find out. I looked him up and apparently his name was Damon Thomas (he's not mentioned by name here, rather pointedly). This actually made me wonder if Kris Jenner was super pissed with these guys (I mean I would be) and if this omission was a sort of "no clicks for you" middle finger. Especially since she talks about Kim's middle school boyfriend, TJ Jackson (Michael Jackson's nephew) quite a bit. Apparently she was a big fan of that guy.

Other things I found interesting:

-Her openness about cheating on Robert Kardashian with a guy ten years younger than she was (apparently she was looking for passion, like something out of The Thorn Birds specifically-- rookie mistake, Kris).
-O.J. flipped out about her cheating and told her she should have just bought a vibrator. Then he called up the guy she was cheating with and yelled at him.
-Kourtney was not Bruce Jenner's fan when they first got engaged and made a point of wearing all black whenever he came over, like she was in mourning or something. Hilarious.
-Kourtney and Kim caused a bomb scare on a plane when they were teens after a bombing of a nearby stadium freaked them out, and they got the plane turned around.
-If you give Kris something and she finds it emotionally meaningful, apparently she will keep it literally forever. This includes the transistor radio her father gave her when she had leg cancer as a kid, the lingerie set she received from Anna Nicole Brown, and Lalique glass she purchased with her late husband.
-If you want a hit reality show, it helps to have Ryan Seacrest on speed dial.

The book ends with her neck surgery (anti-aging not because of anything wrong) and her family gathered around her like she's a sacrifice laid out on a bier, and she talks about how happy she is to have everything she has and her understanding that this is a privilege-- even though she worked for it, dammit. It was simultaneously everything I expected and also so much more. I guess I wasn't expecting to like Kris Jenner so much. Bar the well-I'm-actually-so-rich-I-may-as-well-exist-in-a-different-reality-from-thou moments, she comes across as halfway likable. Even though she does the thing where she kind of paints this I-hoisted-myself-up-by-my-own-bootstraps mythos that a lot of the nouveau riche do to convince the public that they deserve their newly gotten wealth, she's self-aware enough of her own bullshit that it doesn't come across as offensive as people who wholeheartedly consume their own bullshit (like Donald Trump).

If you're curious about Kris Jenner and, especially, if you like the show, I think you'll enjoy the book. The O.J. section is long and painful to read but I thought she portrayed it in a really somber and respectful way, which is in stark contrast to her obvious glee at managing Bruce Jenner's brand and comeback in the '90s and the surging popularity of her TV show in the aughts. This was very well written and I checked in the acknowledgements and she had the help of a "collaborator." Not sure if that means a ghostwriter or just a really hands-on editor, but either way, Mr. Mark Seal did a great job making this memoir highly readable with neat transitions and compelling pacing. This was almost a five star read for me and I'm still kind of mentally blown away by that.

Look, I know it may be difficult to take me seriously because I've given the Kris Jenner book 4 stars, but hear me out. It's good. I mean come on - Kris admits to cheating on Robert Kardashian in a scandalous affair with some loser AND gives us intimate details on the whole Nicole Brown Simpson murder!! She even tells us wether or not she thinks O.J. is guilty. In fact, I was shocked that such a huge chunk of this book was about that case and so little was written about Kris' now famous family. Don't get me wrong, there are some juicy deets spilled about the Kardashian Klan and I ate them all up - don't judge! I gotta keep up! But there is a lot more to this book than just celebrity gossip and fluff, and I suggest you read it.

P.S. - Does anyone else think that Scott Disick looks like a young Christian Bale circa American Psycho??

Judge away, but this shit was $3.99 at TJ Maxx and I'm a sucker for a cheap book. She's pretty shameless but whatever she's doing is working, whatever she's selling people are buying and I've been known to get dragged into an ep or two of Keeping up with the Kardashians.

She's pretty candid about her affair and for all her success pretty much credits that as her one failure in life... and losing money on a town home. Her other eye-rolly moment was when everyone was gathered around her before her neck lift surgery and THAT's when she realized how she is so "blessed". She also dedicates a number of pages to her friend Nicole Brown Simpson, her death and friendship/trial of OJ Simpson. It's pretty surreal since she was so close to the whole thing, but also manages to make it a little about her.

She doesn't cover the sex tape which is essentially how people know Kim, she associates it to her friendship with Paris Hilton. She rambles a lot, name drops constantly and pretty much openly admits that Kim is her favorite, but it's all kind of endearing. GOD HOW DOES SHE DO IT?! (I hate myself)

Can't believe I'm giving this a decent rating but it was genuinely interesting. It's uncharacteristically lacking in Kardashian kool aid and more about Kris' upbringing, life with Robert, and the OJ trial. (And her narcissism. She is simply the GREATEST. ;))

It's fabulous that this book was published in 2011 during more desperate Kardashian kash-grab efforts. I doubt Kris would have been this honest about what a clown of a mother she is and how unhealthy their family dynamics are. If you're interested in the OJ trial and you can forgive the many times Kris inserts herself and exaggerates her relevance in case, it's worth the read.

Many people think The Kardashians are just famous for being famous, but people don't take into account that they are real people, a real family, with real problems. I believe this book gives a look into Kris Jenners life that not many people know or understand. I like the fact that she doesn't hold back anything and lets the reader into everything that had happened in her life good or bad. She strives to be a great mother, great wife, businesswoman, and a rock for her family and friends. The book was well written and reminds me why I love the Kardashians SO much! Loved it!

Please don't judge me. Out of curiosity, I recently watched an episode of The Kardashians. It's a silly show, but I felt compelled to learn more about how this massive empire began. The book is also a bit silly, but I did I learn a lot. It was interesting to read about her friendship with O.J. Simpson and Nicole Brown, and what it was like for her to watch the trial unfold. Kris Jenner has had a crazy life, she works hard and she has definitely made the most of the opportunities that have come her way.

“Kris Jenner and all things Kardashian” details Kris’s Jenner’s biography and stepping stones to creating the media frenzy currently enjoyed by this family. Kris herself came from a modest family background, her grandmother ran a candle store, and her father left them when she was little. Kris the teenager has a romance with a professional golfer, and gradually gets introduced to Robert Kardashian, a family-oriented lawyer of Armenian descent who fell head over heels for her. Kris doesn’t feel the same way, and spends a long time brushing him off. By their third meeting he proposes marriage, but Kris isn’t interested. She’s engaged to someone else—even though by this point, she doesn’t love him either. Eventually, Kris breaks off her engagement (she’s still really young, and working as a stewardess at the time) and marries Robert Kardashian. Wealthy Kardashian leaves in the swanky Beverly Hills and introduces Kris to a life she did not know before. They start a family. Which is where the foundation of the story begins.

There’s a lot touched upon this book—Kris’s infidelity to Robert with a young twenty something, the disintegration of their marriage and Kris’s re-marriage to Olympic champion Bruce Jenner, their friendship with Nicole Brown and O.J. Simpson, Robert Kardashian’s inclusion in the legal defense team of O.J. Simpson, as well as the family’s accidental foray into reality-television which created a brand for them out-of-thin air.

Even if you’re not a fan of the limelight surrounding the Kardashians, and frankly I never watched their show, this book is an interesting look at Kris, a business-savvy woman who uses what she has to become incredibly rich. While many stop at simply marrying rich, Kris goes one step further. She acts as a manager for her own daughters, and at one point describes resurrecting Bruce Jenner’s career as a public speaker by creating media kits for him. After her family becomes famous because of the reality shows, she talks about supplementing the income with a nutritional supplement business, skin care line, clothing line, spin-off shows, etc. At one point, she writes “How can I take these fifteen minutes of fame and turn them into thirty? How can I get paid to do what I love?” And perhaps this is the main lesson of the book.

Read this hoping to discover that Kris isn't as shallow as she seems. It kinda seems like she's a devoted mom who lives for her children. That's noble, right? Sad truth...she really is that shallow. Her staunch love for her family translates into dollar signs and dysfunction. A family pattern she has successfully imbedded in her children.

She writes a few chapters about Nicole Simpson who was her dear friend - but even that portion seems like extortion. It was a very sad time for all involved. But it's part of her history so it's in the book.

There's literally nothing to this woman. She's a fierce business woman who loves money and is really good at accumulating it. Really good. Zero morals, zero concern for anyone outside of her circle. I just saved you 4 hours of your life. You're welcome.

**Warning, Spoilers Ahead**

Even when I thought that this book might get annoying, it actually never did. Kris is very likeable in this book and she is honest about her life and her families'. It never seemed or felt to me like she was bragging about their successes and to be honest I really enjoyed her honesty about the whole OJ Simpson & Nicole Simpson tragedy. I had heard that they were close friends but I did not know how close until reading this book. It must have been very hard for the Kardashian family to have been on different sides of the fence when it came to what sides they were on in regards to the murder.

It was interesting to know that Kris is from San Diego and that her family owned a candle store growing up. The first chapter was very touching on how she described some of the memories as a child in that store. I also did not know that she had an affair when she was married to Robert, which was the cause for the divorce.

Overall, I think fans of the Keeping up with the Kardashians show will enjoy this book. Although I do not watch the show anymore like I did the first seasons, I still loved the book and would recommend it~

This book is interesting and disturbing at the same time. It's interesting to hear the back story of the woman who literally thinks she runs the world- and interesting to see how she became so narcissistic. On the other hand- knowing the back story literally disgusted me and made me feel sorry for her poor children that they were raised by this self-absorbed woman who will stop at nothing for fame and fortune. The name dropping in this book is beyond and it honestly explains why the Kardashians are who they are.

I have a love/hate anything Kardashian philosophy. I try to keep up with what's going on in the entertainment world because you never know when I might be on a trivia show and a Kardashian question might come up.

On the one hand, I must say this book was better than Kyle Richards' recent book.

While on the one hand Kris is a real powerhouse, I'm not sure if it's all in a good way. She is a social climber and has done an excellent job at it. Her work ethic seems to have been picked up by some of her children. Also, her potty-mouth.

I did not realize the extent of the relationship with the Simpsons. I find Robert Kardashian a very interesting person. I wonder what he would think about the 2012 Kardashians?

Kudos to Kris for working hard and making the money she has. I don't contribute to their fortune in any form or manner (I did not buy this book, I got it from the library). I do appreciate being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff.

Kardashian haters are Kardashian motivators.

I absolutely loved this memoir. The Kardashians are my guilty pleasure and just love this reality family. This book was not about the glitz and the glam but about Kris' life and the ups and downs she faced. I liked how a good portion of the book focused on her relationship with OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown and about the murder and trial. Definitely interesting. I recommend this book if you're a fan of the Kardashians, even if you're not it's still a good read!

Judge me if you must, but this book was $1.99 at Goodwill and I have zero self control. Kris Jenner is so absolutely shameless and real in this and while she’s just detailing her life so far, I was pretty hooked. Nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed myself decently enough.

Kris Jenner is the “Momager” to all her kids but is her husband Bruce’s manager as well. Most people today know her from their family show Keeping Up With The Kardashians but there is so much more to her story. How she got to the point she is in today. From where she started with the strong women who influenced her early in life, to her marriage to Robert Kardashian, to her friendships with Nicole and O.J. Simpson, to how she met and married Bruce Jenner. She tells all.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
I was so excited to get this book for review. I do not watch a lot of reality television but I do watch all the Kardashian shows. I find them to be a nice “escape” for me and one of my “guilty pleasures”, even with all Kim’s drama happening now with her divorce, but that’s a topic for another day. It is just sad that it may have taken away from Kris’s big launch of this very entertaining and enlightening book.

This book is 98% about Kris Jenner’s life before the Kardashian family entered the television spotlight with their shows. I knew her first husband was part of O.J. Simpson’s “Dream Team” but never realized the friendship between Kris and Nicole Simpson. Kris gives us the inside view of that friendship and the trial and unique way it touched her whole family, including her now husband Bruce Jenner.

A lot of people say the Kardashian’s are famous for being famous and that may be true. Kris Jenner is the force behind this family and she took what she had to work with and has basically turned it to “gold” for this entire family. You cannot argue her work ethic, she is a successful business woman and has passed her drive onto her children. Mistakes were made in her life but she kept going. The book is a testament to perseverance. This book is written with the same mantra as the show, she tells us the good and the bad, the triumphs and the pitfalls.

She did gloss over a few things in the book that I felt should have been addressed but then I realized they weren’t part of her story. Let Kim talk about her trials and tribulations in her own book someday. The same with the Scott Disick drama, that is for Kourtney to talk about in her own time.

I truly enjoyed this well written memoir. If you are a fan of the Kardashians you will like it too.

I picked this one up after hearing about it on the premiere episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" (yes, I watch that show, and I enjoy it) and hearing about some affair that Kris Jenner had. I didn't know she wrote a book, a few days later I got this from my local library, and honestly, I couldn't put it down.

The book starts off with Kris and her childhood. It spans her adulthood with a pro-golfer boyfriend till she meets Robert Kardashian. Then the book sorta goes to a different tone. Its all about her life with Robert, having babies etc. Then comes her affair which ruins her marriage and it results in divorce. After that she meets Bruce Jenner. After this point, there are about 70 pages or so about OJ and Nicole Brown Simpson. Honestly, I knew Kris was friends with Nicole cause she had mentioned it before. But I didn't really get that they were THAT close. That part of the story ends at the end of the trial. Then the book is really all about getting clothing stores together, the tv show, and on and on.

The book was pretty interesting, but I felt some things were rushed over or skipped over only to be brought up much later. Like how did they get to know all these famous people, was it just because she met Robert Kardashian, and things like that. But overall it entertained me and I enjoyed it.

I didn't know what to expect from Kris Jenner's autobiography, but honestly I was blown away. Her life has had plenty of ups and downs, but what comes through very strongly is her aggressive attitude to making the most of life. Her approach to life is so refreshing and empowering, it now doesn't surprise me the success she has achieved for herself and her family. Her personal views on life align with a lot of my own, so maybe that's why enjoyed this so much? She's a woman who has always dreamed big, made plans, had goals and imagined great things for herself, which I think is amazing.

I came away from reading this with a great deal of admiration for Kris and what she has achieved and thought the advice/life lessons she offered were spot on. She didn't preach, she told you about her mistakes and then outlined what she would do differently now and what she would say to people going through a similar situation.

I'm not a Keeping up with the Kardashians fan, in fact I don't watch much TV at all, but I admire her greatly as a business woman, a mother and someone who reinvented herself later in life.

Now I want a part 2, to cover the more recent developments like Bruce/Caitlyn. Please!

This was our second book club pick and it made for a ridiculous book club party. I enjoyed reading about Kris's past and her affairs and how she came to meet Robert Kardashian. The biggest chunk of the book focuses on Nicole Brown Simpson and the OJ trial and how it affected her relationship with Robert and her children. That stuff was fascinating, but other than that she's just rambling about her new houses and her success and how everything is just "amaaaazing". Also it's super obvious that Kim is her favorite child. I liked the book better when it was about the past, humble beginnings. I still don't understand how she came to rub shoulders with rich and famous, or how she afforded all the nice clothes, fancy vacations and what not. It seemed to skip some parts where it was like ohhhh I'm divorced, heyyy Bruce Jenner! Was it really that quick?

To top this off, we tweeted Kris at our book club party with all our Armenian foods, Pomegranite martinis, and her book in the center, and no retweet or reply! I know we're not famous, but we're still supporting her $26 book at our club.

This was a surprise. I thought I was going to read a palette cleansing book before moving on to other more in-depth and interesting books, but Kris surprised me by not just being a decent writer and story-teller, but by having an interesting life before her kids and before Bruce.

It goes through her friendships with Nicole Brown Simpson and OJ Simpson and we get HER side of the trial and everything that went with it. It was a really good book.

Up until she started talking her kids careers.

Woulda been better had she written about how she pushed the Kim/Reggie sex tape into the public eye. Mother will put everything out for the world to see but won't admit she pimped out her own daughter? Where would they be today if it wasn't for that sex tape?

I really enjoyed this book, to a point. I am fascinated by the Kardashians (and my husband think's it's an irrational obsession), so I picked up the book. Kris is a decent writer and I was truly sucked in to learn about her upbringing and how she came to marry Robert Kardashian. It was a great story.

Then there was the information about the OJ/Nicole story. She went into great depth about the deterioration of their relationship and the trial, which I found fascinating as well. I was really excited to read more about the family as I noted how much detail she went into.

Then the trial was over and there was only about 20% of the book left...she breezed right through the stuff on her family accomplishments! I was stunned that she summed up the tv show(s), the fashion empire, the fragrances, and many other details about their life! She could have written so much more. I know I shouldn't be as mesmerized as I am, but I wanted MORE!

They are famous for being famous, but if given the opportunity to be where they are, I think a good percentage of Americans would trade places with them in a heartbeat!

I picked this one up from the library this week, and stayed up and read it all in one go, in a couple of hours. Because of only having poor peoples tv, I have only managed to see a few of the shows, when house sitting and watching a Keeping up with the Kardashians marathon. You can't avoid them though, that whole Kardashians are everywhere, magazines, TV and papers.

I didn't expect to like the book, I thought it would be all superficial frothy staff, however it did surprise me. Kris met her first husband, Robert Kardashian while she was a young flight attendant. I didn't really know much about her marriage or friendship with OJ and Nicole Simpson, which took up a lot of the book. Her second husband Bruce Jenner was covered as well, and I did admire her for putting her family first, and after several bouts of losing all of her money, in a period of a few short years, she has made them an almost household name and made them very very rich. Her determination and devotion to her family have to be admired.

So, it surprised me by being both readable and engaging, and I learnt somethings along the way. For that, I have to give it a 4/5
