Report: Liverpool now want to sign ‘complete’ World Cup star in swap deal for Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool now want to sign World Cup star Adrien Rabiot, with Calciomercato reporting that they could offer Konstantinos Tsimikas in a swap deal.

The Reds have been in the market for midfield reinforcements and brought in Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal for Juventus over the summer.

But the Brazilian had made just one substitute appearance under Jurgen Klopp before being sidelined with a muscle injury.

Thiago and Jordan Henderson have also picked up injuries this season, while Fabinho hasn’t been at his usual best for Liverpool.

And it seems they could turn to Juve midfielder Rabiot and even offer Tsimikas as part of the deal.

Liverpool want to sign Rabiot

CMW reports that there are ‘question marks’ over Rabiot’s future in Turn, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

With time ticking down on his current deal, Liverpool could move for the ‘complete’ midfielder in January.

The Reds could offer Tsimikas as part of a swap deal for the Frenchman, with the Old Lady in need of reinforcements at left-back.

But the outlet does note that Juve are still evaluating a possible contract renewal for Rabiot.

Tsimikas has mainly played as a back-up option to Andy Robertson during his time at Anfield. But the 26-year-old has put in some impressive displays in the absence of the Scotsman.

Rabiot has been linked with a move to the Premier League quite frequently over the past few windows, with Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly showing interest.

The 27-year-old is currently at the World Cup with France and got off to a flying start last night. The midfielder got on the scoresheet and provided an assist in France’s 4-1 win over Australia.

Rabiot has been in brilliant form for Juve this year too, having scored five times and registered two assists in 16 appearances.

TBR View: Rabiot wouldn’t solve Liverpool’s midfield issues

Rabiot would probably be a good short-term option for the Reds and is enjoying a decent season in Italy.

But Liverpool are in desperate need of a high-energy midfielder who can provide real quality from the middle of the park. While Rabiot has shown flashes of brilliance in Turin, he has struggled to produce on a consistent basis.

And after links to midfielders like Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo, Rabiot would be an underwhelming signing for Klopp’s men.
