Head of Government paid tribute to the memory of the late Kornel Morawiecki

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended ceremonies to unveil plaques dedicated to the late Kornel Morawiecki in Jędrzejów and Nawarzyce. He also laid flowers at the plaque commemorating the firefighters, founders of the Voluntary Fire Service in Nawarzyce.

As the Prime Minister pointed out, by commemorating the late Kornel Morawiecki, members and activists of Solidarity and Fighting Solidarity were also honoured

– My father had big dreams and was not afraid to fulfil them – noted Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Years later, I think we can be happier and prouder because, together with many Solidarity activists and my father, we have led our beloved Homeland to a better place from which to dream of even greater achievements. These are dreams of a strong Poland in an equal and just Europe, living in peace – he added.

As the Prime Minister pointed out, by commemorating the late Kornel Morawiecki, members and activists of Solidarity and Fighting Solidarity were also honoured. Through their sense of freedom in an enslaved country, together with others, those people won us freedom – he said.

The Head of Government also thanked all Voluntary Fire Services, Rural Homemakers’ Clubs and other regional organisations for their care and concern for local Poland.

Unveiling of plaques in Jędrzejów and Nawarzyce in the Wodzisław municipality

Kornel Morawiecki had family ties to the land of Jędrzejów. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s great-grandfather was the municipal scribe in Nawarzyce, where the seat of the municipality was once located.

The Prime Minister’s great-grandfather, Michał Morawiecki, was also one of the founders of the fire service in Nawarzyce a century ago, which is now celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The Voluntary Fire Service in Navarzyce has a vibrant and proud tradition. It was established in 1921. At present, it has a total of 41 members. The volunteer firefighters range in age from 19 to almost 80. All of them are very much involved in the activities of the service.
