Klim Kostin Scores Again; Continues Impressive Play On Sharks' Top Line - The Hockey News San Jose Sharks News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

San Jose Sharks winger Klim Kostin scored again last night, bringing his point total to four since joining the team.

Kostin had four points in 33 games with the Detroit Red Wings this season. After quickly working his way up the lineup, Kositin has usurped Alexander Barabanov on the top line with Mikael Granlund and Fabian Zetterlund.

"He's an elite player. He's one of the best in the NHL," Kostin said about Granlund postgame. "He's been in the league a long time. It's an honor to play with him."

Granlund set up Kostin with an elite saucer pass from close. For a pass like that to work, perfection is needed.

Granlund has been sending saucer passes to high-danger areas all season to the likes of Anthony Duclair, Fabian Zetterlund, and, more recently, Thomas Bordeleau.

Sharks head coach David Quinn has been happy with Kostin's performance with the top line.

"[He] protects the puck well. [He's] got skill," Quinn said postgame. He's got an edge to him. He did a good job with that line."

At 24, Kostin still has plenty of potential to be a 'late bloomer' by NHL standards. He has yet to really have a true opportunity with top-line ice time as he's gotten with San Jose the last two games.

He continued his TOI growth last night again as he played 16:34. On Saturday, he played 15:57.

Kostin's contract runs through the end of next season, so the remainder of this season and contractually next season should give Kostin an extended look at what he can bring to the future.
