As viewers prepare to say goodbye to The Good Doctor after seven seasons on ABC, a lot is taking place in the final set of episodes.
At the height of this season, Dr. Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, is experiencing many of life's milestones during his time at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Along with being husband to wife Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara), he is also embracing fatherhood after the birth of his son, Steve. Viewers got a chance to see how being a new dad affected Shaun during the emotional season premiere, which featured two cases involving babies. Fans can expect to see more of his tender side as new episodes continue through the end of April.
Given how Shaun's all about being a family man these days, some folks may be wondering if actor Freddie Highmore is married in real life. It turns out that Freddie is happily hitched, but he prefers to keep his marriage out of the spotlight.
During a September 2021 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Freddie was spotted wearing a wedding ring for the first time on television. When host Jimmy Kimmel inquired about his relationship status, the actor confirmed he is a married man.
"Yes, it is a wedding ring. Yes, I got married," he shared at the time. "It’s funny — ever since I’ve been wearing this ring people have been asking me if I’m married. So, I figured I should clarify it."
"I’m not gonna jump up and down on the couch on the talk show and express my excitement that way. I know that you do that in America," Highmore joked. "But I’m as happy as a Brit can be and I’m married to a very wonderful woman now. So yes, I feel very happy."
When Jimmy asked Freddie for more details, the August Rush star chose not to reveal his wife's identity. He did share one key detail about her in acknowledging that she is also from the United Kingdom. "She is [a Brit]," he confirmed to Jimmy.
Freddie went on to say that "it's still early days," admitting that he "still can't get over the terminology and the vocab." As the 32-year-old relayed, "'a married man' just sounds very old, and 'my wife' sounds very possessive. So we don't really use that yet. We just point to the rings."
When Freddie returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! in April 2023, he acknowledged on the show that "it is a little odd still" for him to use the words. "I'm used to the ring, you know? I don't really play around with it as much … But yeah, 'my wife,' it's still a little odd," he said at the time. Jimmy then asked if Freddie's wife felt the same way about calling him her "husband," to which the actor replied: "No, I think she got used to it sooner than me."
So, are there any other clues about who Freddie is married to? According to a report from Parade, the Bates Motel star is married to a web designer named Klarissa Munz, who he supposedly met while in school at Cambridge University. Distractify also noted the two seem to prefer keeping their romance private, as Freddie hasn't posted on Instagram and doesn't actively share life updates there or on any other social media platform.
Even offscreen, we're thrilled to see Freddie happy and in love!
