Kitarō (鬼太郎, Kitarō), also known as GeGeGe no Kitarō (ゲゲゲの鬼太郎), is the main protagonist of anime/manga series of the same name. He is a yōkai boy born in a cemetery after the death of his parents. Aside from his mostly-decayed father, Medama-Oyaji, he is among the last surviving members of the Ghost Tribe. He fights for peace between humans and yōkai, which generally involves protecting the former from the wiles of the latter, but there have been a number of vice versa situations.

Personality[]

In the various series, Kitaro helps humans whenever there's danger. His original counterpart in the manga and its adaptation Hakaba Kitarō wasn't exactly heroic, as he essentially drove two people to suicide and was more greedy and less kind towards humans. Likewise, in the 2018 adaptation he is a good boy who truly cares about humans, but he shows no mercy to yokai and humans who are blatantly evil. Kitaro will even punish evil humans threatening other humans or at least making sure they'll get what they deserve in the afterlife and scaring high schoolers straight by telling them how Hell awaits all sinners, especially under his watch.

Abilities[]

In the manga and several incarnations of the anime, Kitaro is able to sever his appendages and remote control them because of his powerful lifeforce. Also, in the manga, he's able to shoot his fingers against enemies

Trivia[]

  • He is likely inspired by ghost stories such as those about Kosodate-Yūrei.
