I go to a school with a lot of school spirit, but unfortunately, promotes only a specific type of student to go beyond and succeed. The only people able to make a difference in our school are those popular enough, and not the people who actually care. The teachers, however, are amazing and very helpful, going out of their way to provide academic support. Overall, It's a school that has it's social issues, but that I'm glad I got to attend.
Kirkwood High School is high strung on tradition. Our school events are usually tied in with traditions, for example our homecoming dance and senior nights takes place in November and our HOCO also includes our "rival" school. However, it ends up being inconvenient for everyone, as most of the tradition end up being. This school is too attached to tradition and is too controlled by alumni and wistful parents that require traditions to continue. No school events are fun anymore because there are too many restriction on what the tradition can be so they're not the same as they were for former students. It's not fun anymore.
Overall, KHS is a great school and has a lot to offer its students from a variety of classes and clubs to some great sports teams and lots of ways to get involved and be a part of the community. Its got some great traditions like turkey day, senior welcome, senior prank day, and the friendship dance and has a long time rival webster groves. The only thing that needs to change is we need better food on campus. Since we get to leave campus no one stays for lunch because the food is expensive and bad and we need some nicer food to keep people form leaving for lunch, even if its more expensive.
