Q&A
Damn this actually makes a lot of sense. Personal bias aside, King's Row offers (almost) every character a chance to shine.
Lucio's have sick wallride paths and cheeky pits
Sniper's have good options for setting up
Literally every accuracy dependent hero benefits from the tight space
Flankers have loads of escape routes
Tanks can easily protect the narrow spaces
Plus it has geometry that obscures several paths allowing all sorts of tricky strategies. It really does have a complexity that few maps do. Otoh, I kinda dislike when a game requires you to memorize a ton of map details. It feels like padding the gameplay sometimes. Then, after awhile, you cherish that edge you have over new players, but it’s entirely synthetic.
Otoh!
and it's not super open so it isn't just "headshot, headshot, headshot, headshot, seriously, if this person using an aimbot or what?"
Personally, Eichenwalde is my favorite, largely due to the aesthetics. King's Row comes second with Hollywood behind.
Most are okay, but I absolutely hate HATE Oasis.
Yes on Oasis!
I think it’s aesthetically beautiful, one of the better looking maps, but I loath playing it with my entire being
Same, and it seems every other match I get Oasis, I'd prefer Volskaya at this point!
Oasis rules. That and lijong are my favorite control point maps. The best payload maps are Hollywood and kings row
Nepal is on my list as worst control map ugh
100% agree. Although I may put Anubis at #3.
But yes, I despise Oasis!
You despise Oasis but would put a 2CP map in your top 3?
Send this man help!
Honestly i like 2cp more then most king of the hill maps
I respect everyone's opinion, but I also just threw up in my mouth a little while reading that lol
Do you play support?
As a support, I love the 2CP maps and hate the koth ones.
Anubis is my least favorite map...
What about paris?
If I get oasis in anything but comp it’s an instant leave game for me
if i get any 2CP map in Quick Play, it's an instant leave. my hatred for 2CP is so bad, I've even contemplated leaving competitive matches and taking an SR drop rather than playing them....it hasn't happened yet, but it might eventually!
Anubis? That map shouldn’t even exist.
People like Anubis? It’s worse than Horizon Lunar Colony..
Oasis is my favorite map! Eichen second, Kings Row third.
I like Lijang.
Favorite map too.
My map tier list
That's a nice table you have there.
Here's mine! Take it with a grain of salt, haha
Why though?
I'm a tracer main and I love control maps
Control maps are best maps.
Tracers loving control, as a zen I hate control lol
I can tell you absolutely hate double point maps as well. Don’t worry, I think they suck too.
Y’all both forgot Hollywood. Lol
Man, I knew I forgot something.
oh thank fuck I'm not the only one who hates Horizon
Lucio is that you?
I think King’s Row might be his favourite map
Why am I not surprised that YourOverwatch had to be an ass about it?
(Best map is Hanamura, fite me. :p )
I wouldn't say they were an ass about it, but it was definitely the theme of their channel. Break it down and explain it. It was very freedo-ish

but Eddie is back now and he's less gripey.
Idk is he really wrong? Most maps are pretty much the same with cover and the path being a little different. The maps with the most variety between their like group of maps is probably koth, and even then they're pretty much all mirrored with a point in the middle usually with cover around it.
That's being reductionist. You can break anything in the game down to a few points and say they're the same.
King's Row doesn't play like Eichenwald doesn't play like Numbani, and they're all hybrid maps.
Every map has its differences from the others in the same categories.
Right, it's just how vague you want to get into it. Of course there are differences, but he's saying all the maps are built structurally very similarly, and where exactly the areas are are slightly different. And you CAN break anything down in the game, because that's how it was designed. It's like the chokes in the maps are similar like the stuns in the game are similar. They are essentially the same thing that have a bit of their own touch to it. And like he said some areas are intended to force certain comps, so yes they will play differently.
A large number of storys follow the Heros Journey template but that doesn't mean Lord of the Rings will appeal to the same audience as Kung Fu Panda.
The little differences between the maps are more important than he lets on. I do think he has a point with the part about when maps dont follow the template people hate them for it though.
Here's the source!
This is just the best map need more of this
1st & 3rd point are great on King's Row, but I don't like the second point. It's too compact and narrow, and it's nearly impossible to get back to your team alone if you die with the long ass sightlines and lack of cover on the ramp, assuming the enemy is running a Widow or Hanzo. 3/4 of my games on either side, 2nd point is just a steamroll from point A cap.
Junkertown's second point is similar, but much better designed.
I feel the same about Numbani 2nd point.
I love Playing Reinhardt, so Kings row is my favorite. Just seems like the easiest map to use him for me.
Eichenwalde for it's beauty and Rialto for being so well designed. Kings Row is pretty close, since it is also well designed and a joy to play Ana on.
Rialto!
I like Escort and Hybrid maps the most, because of the variation and I think the feeling of actually making progress. In addition it's more dynamic than 2cp, as a point is unlikely to be decided by a single won teamfight and there's every chance for the defenders to come back and contest.
I had high hopes for Havana, but the sightlines are so long that 90% of the time you need to specifically pick to counter Widow which I resent as she's quite a centralising character as it is. 3rd point is too open for her traditional counters to be effective against her as well.
3rd sucks for an actual map, worked for PvE, but there is hardly any cover, and has defenders spawn incredibly close to point.
Does anyone else feel like the only maps they get are Busan, Nepal, and Oasis?
Now you mention it, I feel like I get them way more than usual.
I love Nepal, Busan is OK, but if I could strangle whoever decided to make Oasis always show up...
I like Hollywood the most. King's Row I have a problem with the defender second spawn. It's too far away.
Illios, welcome to boop city
I like eichenwalde more
Havana and Rialto are tied for first imo, but king’s row is probably my next favorite
I like Rialto a lot
Route 66
King's Row, Lijiang Tower, Eichenwalde, Rialto, Dorado, Hollywood, Ilios (except shitty Ruins).
I think the thing is they need to make more non-2PC maps with like close quarters. All of the maps are too open. Like Hanamura would be sick if it wasn't 2CP.
It appears I'm in the minority here, but my Favorite map is Anubis.
I used to be a Pharah main, but I play more support or tank nowadays. I will, however, play Pharah on this map every time and my win rate is WAY higher than average either defending or attacking, especially if I have a buddy with me who will MT or MH.
Is that normally how YOW talks? The whole mindset of, "I only like maps my teammates can play, which is none of them," seems like the same as low-SR players saying they could be better if not for their teammates.
I think he was just making a joke. He's usually really analytical in his videos
Assault (2CP) maps are my most favorite. Control maps are my least favorite. I also enjoy Escort maps coz they are dynamic. Hybrid maps are cool too sometimes.
My top 3 maps are:
Temple of Anubis
King's Row
Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Wtf is wrong with you
Certainly an unpopular opinion, but you're entitled to it. I'm curious what characters you tend to play to like 2CP most.
Reinhardt and Lucio. Sometimes McCree if I need to clear point B for quick cap. I play Torb too sometimes on Hanamura. Junkrat works really well on Anubis. In a nutshell, mostly I play tanks and healers, rarely I play DPS.
Lijiang Garden, and then Ilios Well.
Fuck im the only one that likes 2cp.
They can be awesome if you have a team that works together
In other words: they suck 95% of the time
Kings row because I love playing Zen on it and Rialto because there are some great angles to land fat nades as ana
Eichenwald and King's Row are my favorites mostly because all the heroes I like playing are viable on both.
My favorites are King‘s Row and Paris. My least favorite one‘s are Oasis and Havana. 🙂
Paris? different metas? there's only 1 there which is bastion...
King's Row, Ilios & Eichenwalde are all great
As a Rein main I love King's Row. Too bad I get Paris for each letter in "King's Row" to every one time I actually do get King's Row.
If there’s no red symm, then I love Nepal the most. If there’s a red symm, I hate overwatch entirely. ;)
Edit: ~no but seriously I think I may be the only person who thinks Paris is the best.~ edit edit: no, screw fair play, i may be a lucio main but i’m all ilios and anubis i won’t lie. They’re just too fun.
When I used to main Junkrat I used to love king's row. It has so many flank routes to get to snipers and wreck teams easily because of the tight spaces. Now that I play Lucio I like Nepal and Ilios better. I feel route 66 is an underrated map it's so easy to dominate in attack and still lose second point on it I love defending on the map.
Kings row attack is most fun with dva because sneaky bomb.
I like most of the maps. Except volskaya . F that map
Junkertown is my favorite, Hollywood is a very close second
I like hanamura
I personally always just have a good time on this map no matter if I'm winning or losing. The first point is nicely balanced and pushing is simple with enough high ground and flank routes. The escort route gets a little tricky around the second point but still easy to push through with some good ults. The third point is probably hardest but one of most fun places as it becomes extremely competitive if everyone is engaged. It's just a good map with pretty aesthetics.
I think what it boils down to is that many people prefer escort missions. The most disliked maps seem to be Horizon Lunar Colony and Paris which are 2CP which is many people’s least favorite game mode.
Kings row has got to be in my top 3:
1 hanamura
2 Kings row
3 volskaya
God Save The King intensifies
I’ve had some of my personal best games on Kong’s Row, really love the boop potential for the final point also.
Perfect title!
because kings row is the only map that gives me options to deal with a bastion set up solo. it seems every teammate i get they insta loose 100IQ everytime they see a bastion or a torb or a reaper os symmetra on the enemy team
As Lucio my favourite map is Ilios, as Zarya it’s Kings Row and as Mercy I’m not too fussy but Junkertown is good.
I can always find a character to play on King's Row unlike other maps like Hanamura it's hard to flank unless you have movement abilities on that first choke. I love Kings Row you can just go anyway you want and it's always a good fun fight.
100% Ilios for me
"Cause King's Row you know?
Uhh, they have, the bus, payload, the clock..
..uhh, the darkness.."
Solid arguments right there. :-)
My favourite are
Kings row
Blizzard world
Hollywood
Kings Row has no bad parts of the map, every part can be used...
Unlike others like Lunar Colony or Paris 😷
I like all pretty much except that shit of a Paris.
I agree with Youroverwatch, maps don’t matter that much
