VfL sign Kilian Fischer

Germany U21 international agrees a five-year deal with the Wolves.

VfL Wolfsburg have made their third signing ahead of the 2022/23 season with the arrival of talented defender Kilian Fischer from 1. FC Nürnberg. The 21-year-old Germany U21 international, whose preferred position is at right-back although he can operate in a number of roles, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract valid until 30 June 2027. He will wear the number two jersey in head coach Niko Kovac’s squad.

“Kilian has developed very well and very quickly,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “He’s hugely talented, physically strong, has a lot of pace and a very professional attitude. He’s ready to take the next step in his career in the Bundesliga. We’re very pleased that he’s chosen VfL Wolfsburg and fully identifies with our ideas and goals.”

“Develop at a top level in a calm environment”

Fischer, who was born in the Lower Franconian town of Miltenberg, cut his teeth in the game in the TSV 1860 Munich academy. He rose through the ranks there and, after impressing in the reserve side, earned a transfer to Türkgücü Munich, where he helped the team win promotion to the third division. After two years at the club he switched to Nürnberg in summer 2021, making 20 Bundesliga 2 appearances last season. He has also made two appearances for Germany’s U21 side.

“The conditions in Wolfsburg are unbelievable for a young player,” Fischer said. “You can develop at a top level here in a calm environment. And that’s exactly my aim: to take the next steps here and become a Bundesliga player.” He follows Jakub Kaminski and Patrick Wimmer in moving to VfL this summer.
