Based on the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis, Bones and All has received primarily positive reviews since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The cast of Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All features several award-winning actors, including Mark Rylance and the movie’s two leads, Timothée Chalamet and rising star Taylor Russell. Guadagnino, who is best known for Call Me by Your Name, calls this movie "a very romantic story about the impossibility of love and yet the need for it, even in extreme circumstances." Taylor Russell as Maren

The main character in Bones and All, Maren, is played by award-winning actress Taylor Russell. The movie follows her journey to meet her birth mother, whom she does not remember. She also has cannibalistic urges and eventually meets several people like her throughout her trip. They include Lee, with whom Maren develops a strong relationship as they travel across the country together. Russell was previously seen in the cast of the Escape Room movies and in Netflix's Lost in Space.

Timothée Chalamet as Leelee bones and all

In Bones and All, Timothée Chalamet portrays Lee, a much more experienced cannibal who has been on his own for a while due to a rocky relationship with his family. Lee meets Maren when he kills and eats a customer at a gas station who was being a jerk. He offers her a ride, and they end up sticking together for the trip to find Maren’s mother. Chalamet is a decorated actor who has starred in blockbuster movies such as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and also smaller budget films like Guadagnino's Call Me by Your Name.

Mark Rylance as Sully

Sully, a creepy and intriguing eater in Bones and All, is played by Mark Rylance. The actor has previously been seen in several Steven Spielberg movies including The BFG, Ready Player One, and Bridge of Spies, for which he received an Academy Award. In Bones and All, Rylance plays an older, much more experienced eater and is the first to explain to Maren that there are others like her and how it all works. However, when Maren decides to abandon Sully, he follows her and flies into a rage when she refuses to join him. Rylance's incredible performance makes him one of the creepiest parts of an already unsettling film.

Michael Stuhlbarg as Jake

Decorated actor Michael Stuhlbarg appears in Bones and All as Jake, a terrifying and deranged cannibal whom Maren and Lee meet on their journey. He tells the pair about his cannibalistic exploits in one of the most unsettling scenes in the movie. Stuhlbarg was previously seen in the cast of Call Me by Your Name, making this his second movie with Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet. The actor is also known for the movies The Shape of Water, A Serious Man, Arrival, Doctor Strange, and Spielberg's Lincoln and The Post, among others, as well as the TV show Boardwalk Empire. His celebrated acting career has earned him several honors, including a Screen Actors Guild Award.

David Gordon Green as Brad

David Gordon Green portrays a man traveling with Jake named Brad. While sitting around a campfire, Brad reveals that he is not an eater but still travels with Jake. He's described by his companion as “a groupie." Maren is disgusted with him and storms off. David Gordon Green is primarily a movie director. Most notably, he directed the horror trilogy of Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends.

Chloë Sevigny as Janelle Yearly

Chloë Sevigny portrays Maren’s mother, Janelle Yearly. While she is in the movie briefly, she is very important to the plot. When Maren finally finds her mother, she is in a mental institution in Minnesota. Though Janelle is non-verbal, Maren discovers through a letter that her mother is also an eater, and that is why she institutionalized herself. She is also missing both of her forearms, presumably from eating them off. Sevigny is a highly acclaimed actress known for American Horror Story and The Girl from Plainville. Throughout her career, she has been nominated for many high-profile awards and won a Golden Globe for Big Love.

André Holland as Frank

André Holland is widely remembered for his stellar performance as Kevin in the Best Picture-winning film Moonlight. In Bones and All, he plays Frank, the concerned father of Maren. He discovers her cannibalistic tendencies when she is very young and protects her until she is 18, at which point he chooses to leave her. Frank gives Maren some money, her birth certificate, and a tape on which he details the extent of her compulsions since she was a child. Along with Moonlight, Holland can be seen in The Knick and High Flying Bird.

Jessica Harper as Barbara Kerns - Barbara Kerns is Maren's grandmother, who tells her where to find her mother. Jessica Harper is known for horror movies with roles in Dario Argento’s original Suspiria and Brian De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise.

Anna Cobb as Kayla - Anna Cobb portrays, Kayla, Lee’s sister who is frustrated with him for never being around. The two clearly have a strong bond, but Lee’s cannibalistic proclivity means that he cannot be home very often. Anna Cobb is a fairly new actress known for We’re All Going to The World’s Fair.

Sean Bridgers as Barry Cook - Barry Cook, played by Sean Bridgers, is drunkenly yelling at customers in a gas station where Maren and Lee are both shopping. When Lee takes him outside to kill and eat him, Maren follows. This is how the two of them meet and begin traveling together. Sean Bridgers has previously been seen in Room and the HBO Western series Deadwood.

Jake Horowitz as Booth Man - While traveling, Maren and Lee stop at a carnival in Iowa where they meet a man working one of the booths, and he's played by Jake Horowitz. When Maren expresses that she is hungry, Lee seduces the Booth Man before killing him. It is later revealed that he had a wife and child waiting up for him at home.

Kendle Coffey, Madeleine Hall, and Ellie Parker as Sherry, Kim, and Jackie - At the beginning of the movie, Maren goes to a slumber party with Sherry, Kim, and Jackie and ends up biting off Kim’s finger. Their scene is featured heavily in the theatrical trailer for Bones and All.
