Rangers: Kemar Roofe shares honest assessment on Ibrox future

Rangers: Kemar Roofe shares honest assessment on Ibrox future ahead of Dundee clash

Kemar Roofe admits he does not know if he will still be a Rangers player come next season due to his contract expiring.

The 31-year-old has played 20 times for the Gers this season, most recently featuring for the final 13 minutes in the midweek loss to Benfica.

Roofe is one of multiple Rangers players due to be out of contract in the summer, but he has suggested he would like to stay on and play under Philippe Clement.

“Will I be here? Who knows? My contract is up at the end of the season, so you need to ask the people above that question,” Roofe said, as per the Daily Record [17 March].

“I don’t know. You’d need to ask the gaffer and people that are in control of the contracts.

“I really like playing in this squad and under the gaffer. What the gaffer has brought to this club is massive. I truly believe you’ll see the results next season.

“He has come in this season, everyone’s learning his style of play and what he wants. It’s vice-versa with him.

“Getting a few niggles and little injuries out of the system this season means that next season the machine should be really firing.”

Kemar Roofe contract situation at Rangers

Roofe has scored some valuable goals for Rangers, including the winner in the 3-2 win over Real Betis late last year, but his injury record remains a concern.

As an option from the substitutes’ bench, he remains a valuable asset. However, given he has made just five appearances from the bench in 2024, totalling 76 minutes on the field, Rangers may well cut their losses.

A new striker will be on the agenda for Clement in the summer transfer window to provide serious competition for Cyriel Dessers going forward.

If Roofe is to earn himself new deal, he needs to get a run of games under his belt between now and the end of the campaign and chip in with a couple of goals.

If not, the unfortunate truth is that he will likely be looking for a 10th club of his career ahead of next season.
