The Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus planned a series of concerts featuring 15 songs by LGBTQ+ icon Kelly Clarkson and then found out they had a new fan: the hit singer herself.
After the singer found out about the concert, she quickly invited them onto her show as part of her “What I’m liking” segment and surprised them at the end of the interview and performance.

After part of the chorus performed a version of her song “Stronger,” Clarkson spoke with the choir’s artistic director, Eric Shepard.
Shepard said he was inspired by Clarkson’s songs when searching for a way to “honor the depth and breadth of our members,” telling her that it was a natural choice to honor her catalog.
“We’re all human. We’ve all gone through joy in life. And so as we perform, some of our members are going to integrate what your music means to them,” he said.
He cited the song “Unbreakable” to address “the incredible power of what it means to be who you are.”
“It’s going to focus on how we can all understand that all we’ve been through today is going to help us get to tomorrow and help us inspire the next generation.”
To help the group continue “creating fearlessly,” Clarkson told Shepard that one of her sponsors would send the group a check for $1000 to show support.
