Katherine Helmond, star of 'Who’s the Boss?' and 'Soap,' dies at 89

Actress Katherine Helmond, best known for her work in "Who's the Boss?" and "Soap," has died due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease, her rep Jeff Witjas told USA TODAY Friday. She was 89.
The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline report she passed away at her home in Los Angeles on Feb. 23.
Helmond played mother Mona Robinson on the ABC sitcom "Who’s the Boss?," which ran from 1984 to 1992. From 1977 to 1981, she played Jessica Tate on the soap-opera spoof series "Soap." She won Golden Globe awards in 1981 and 1989 for her roles on both shows.
More recently, the seven-time Emmy nominated actress voiced Lizzie in the "Cars" franchise and appeared on "True Blood."
Her former co-star Alyssa Milano mourned Helmond's passing.
"My beautiful, kind, funny, gracious, compassionate, rock. You were an instrumental part of my life. You taught me to hold my head above the marsh! You taught me to do anything for a laugh! What an example you were!" she wrote. "Rest In Peace, Katherine."
Tony Danza, Helmond's and Milano's co-star on "Who's the Boss?," shared old photos of the cast.
"We all lost a national treasure today," he tweeted. "No words can measure my love."
