Summary

  • Asgardians, despite their dwindling numbers, remain among the most powerful beings in the MCU.
  • Certain members of the Asgardian royal family possess superpowers beyond average citizens.
  • Characters like Lady Sif and Hogun have showcased incredible resilience and skills that rival gods.

Though they have undergone hardships that have caused their numbers to dwindle, Asgardians still rank among the most powerful people within the MCU. Asgard has featured heavily in Thor's MCU journey as he wrestled with the responsibilities of leadership before ultimately abdicating from his throne and leaving the Earth-based nation of New Asgard in the care of King Valkyrie. Throughout these appearances, Asgardians have consistently demonstrated an almost superhuman level of resilience, helping to justify their status as gods to a certain group of humans.

Though Asgardian physiology places them leagues ahead of superpower-devoid humans, a few notable examples of Asgardians have demonstrated even greater strength. Notably, the Asgardian royal family seems to have the privilege of certain superpowers that escape the average Asgardian citizen. Yet they are not the only subset of Asgardian society that boasts incredible powers, while the most powerful of all of them isn't biologically Asgardian at all.

10 Lady Sif Has Shown Incredible Resilience

Last Appeared In Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)

As the only surviving member of Thor's closest Asgardian companions, Lady Sif has proven her resilience in the face of Asgard's hardships. She also boasts the most screen time of the group through which to demonstrate her power and proficiency, having appeared in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - although the canonicity of this show is still frustratingly unclear. Regardless, Lady Sif has proven to be a formidable combatant, typically alongside the Warriors Three, as she stood up to Frost Giants, Marauders, the Destroyer, and Dark Elves with few problems.

Lady Sif now trains the future Einherjar in New Asgard after having survived an encounter with Gorr the God Butcher, though she lost an arm for her efforts. Though her survival where the Warriors Three perished might suggest that she outpaces them in power levels, the fact that Sif avoided a confrontation with their murderer, Hela, is why she still lives today. Without seeing how she would fare in a bout with the Goddess of Death, it is difficult to place her ahead of the warrior who held his own for a spell.

9 Hogun Held His Own Against Hela

Last Appeared In Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Hogun is of Vanir descent, but as one of the Warriors Three is presumably a naturalized Asgardian. Of the three, Hogun's stern and disciplined demeanor seems to have placed him ahead of his cohort in power levels, as he held his own against Hela for several moments where Fandral and Volstagg died almost instantly. It was as he led the Einherjar against the Goddess of Death that Hogun demonstrated his skill with a flail, surviving a one-on-one bout for several moments before Hela would ultimately impale him on a conjured blade.

Hogun's superiority was demonstrated early on in his MCU appearances. In the battle on Jotunheim during Thor's ill-fated attempt to retaliate against the Frost Giants, Hogun was the only member of the Warriors Three and Lady Sif to remain entirely unscathed, even saving Lady Sif from a seemingly fatal assault. This might raise questions surrounding whether the Vanir are physiologically superior to Asgardians, though Hogun's personality suggests that he simply takes conflict more seriously than his more lighthearted companions.
