The mummy makeover: Former supermodel Karen Mulder is virtually unrecognisable as she enjoys a family holiday in St. Barts

She was one of the world's leading supermodels, and could command thousands of pounds a day to strut her stuff on the hottest runways.

But Karen Mulder was virtually unrecognisable as she relaxed on the beach in St. Barts alongside her daughter, Anna, on Sunday.

Swapping the world of fashion for life as a model mummy, the 44-year-old beauty looked miles away from her former days as a catwalk queen as she kicked back on the white Caribbean sands.

And although it's years since she was in her heyday, the Dutch star was still in possession of a supermodel figure as she showcased her enviable physique in a skimpy black string bikini.

With her toned, taut stomach and long, lean limbs on display, the former Sports Illustrated bombshell seemed to have been genetically-blessed with the figure of a 20-year-old.

Gone were Mulder's trademark long blonde locks and in their place was a head of shaggy ash-blonde curls as she soaked up the Caribbean sun on the idyllic white sands.

Doting on her seven-year-old daughter, Anna, the former fashionista lavished attention on her little girl as she worked away building sandcastles on the beach.

The adorable youngster was protected from the sun's powerful rays in a two-tone pink surf top and a cute lilac visor, while mummy Mulder was on hand with the sun lotion to ensure she didn't get burnt.

Later in the day, the star returned to the beach for some well-deserved relaxation time, lapping up the sunshine as she reclined on a sun lounger in a tiny white bikini, which flaunted her enviable washboard abs in all their glory.

The Dutch supermodel has stayed largely out of the limelight for the past 10 years following a failed suicide attempt in 2002.

Mulder suffered a tumultuous time since rising to fame alongside Naomi Campbell and her fellow suppers in the Nineties.

After entering the modelling industry at the tender age of 15 when she won the Elite Model of the Year contest in 1985, the blonde bombshell enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame.

She soon saw her career go stratospheric, and before her 18th birthday had walked the runway for Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Versace, and Armani.

Mulder returned to the catwalk in July 2007 for the Dior Autumn/Winter 07/08 Couture Collection in Paris, modelling alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Helena Christensen, Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, and Stella Tennant.

The identity of Anna's father is still not widely known.
