My Cuban food standards are pretty high, so I’m always a little apprehensive about trying out a new Cuban restaurant. I bit the bullet and decided to try Old’s Havana on a Friday night. Based on the reviews and seeming popularity, I made a reservation....Upon arrival, I was greeted by the hostess, who asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Given the nice breeze that evening, we opted for outdoor seating. The hostess proceeded to walk us through the restaurant (not very big) and walked us to a very large patio area out back. Never in a million years would I have thought this restaurant had this type of space in the rear. The patio has plenty of seating—high tops and regular height tables. There’s even a lounge-like area. On Friday nights they have live music, so the patio was a bit loud with people trying to keep conversations going on top of the music. Overall it was a great atmosphere. Getting noticed by our waitress was a challenge. I don’t necessarily put it on her because they were seriously understaffed. For dinner I had the picadillo (ground beef) with rice/beans and plantains. Great flavors all around. My mojito, on the other hand, left nothing to envy. While it did have a sugarcane stalk, it was dry and you couldn’t suck on it, which is the whole point of having sugarcane in the drink. While the food was excellent, I am giving the restaurant 4 stars because the food and drinks took forever to come out and because there’s no designated No Smoking area. I love eating outdoors, but I don’t enjoy second-hand smoke. It’s be great if they had section of tables for non-smokers. There’s street parking all along Calle Ocho (8th street). The parking payment machines are finicky with credit cards, so use loose change if you have it instead.More

We enjoyed the whole experience. Usually I avoid super touristy joints but this one attracted me with great music and friendly hostesses. We had ceviche, some croquets, octopus carpaccio, and of course mojitos with a big, crunchy sugar cane in it! We loved it. Really...nice atmosphere and super friendly service. I’d love to come back!More

My sister and I, two seniors, ate lunch at this restaurant. The music and atmosphere were enjoyable. Neither of us had experienced Cuban cuisine before and the recommendations from the waitress were perfect. The outside dining area was pleasant, the service and generous portions at...reasonable prices were appreciated. All of the wait staff were so pleasant. We went there due to a recommendation from a local we met. I highly recommend this restaurant.More

This was probably the best meal I had in miami. The fried pork appetizer was delicious. And I tried the steak with grilled onions and homemade black beans and rice... so good. Words cant describe how good. The service though...not attentive at all and the...gratuity is added so they dont try to do anything special for you. And the girl tried to get me to tip twice. She added gratuity and then brought back only the credit card receipt which had a spot for gratuity again. She said to fill it in. I said you included it already...she then said oh yea right. So they are taking advantage of tourists that dont know tip is included. This totally turned me off since the food was one of the best cuban meals I have ever had. Sad to see this because I saw another review that they did this to someone else. The owner should say something to the servers. I will be back but I'll remember gratuity is included.More

When the waiter came with the bill, I said the service charge was already included (18%) the waiter immediately said “no it’s not. That’s a service charge from the business, if you want to leave a tip for me, it’s extra”….. wtf?! 🤷‍♂️ The absolute...disdain on this persons face was kind of shocking. A bold faced look on her face as she tried to get us to believe that the 18% service charge on the bill was not a gratuity. Total scam trying to get us to double tip. This sort of thing will give the whole neighborhood a bad name. So the food is basically quite good authentic Cuban food which if you haven’t had it is not spicy at all. The great thing about olds Havana is the live music. These guys work their butts off providing amazing Cuban music live. The kitchen staff work their butts off and then one waiter trying to sting customers for extra cash can bring the whole experience down to feeling ugly.More

We had couple of mojitos, shared a ropa vieja dish a desert plus couple of coffees and suddenly we had to pay 18% service charge and taxes to that extra charge as well which it came above 20%. Waitress also suggested that because the service...charge gets split amount 4 it was not enough. I found them a little too abusive. Totally not worth the food that we had or the service. In fact we were there a little bit too long because the service was slow. $110 later we will definitely not return to them. I definitely don’t recommend this place, there is better for less around them.More

I was a bit leery at first because this was on the main strip where several of the other restaurants had employees outside trying to pull people in off the street. Old's Havana on the other hand, had a line of people waiting to get...in!! Food was authentic and delicious! Lunch was very crowded with a small group playing music; I would assume dinner would be the same. Well worth going to. Not a wannabe restaurant but the real thing!! Nor is it expensive!! Would definitely visit again!More

Fun place to go to food is good not so pricy but with 18% service charge that appears on your bill and it's not the tip. Then they want you to tip on top of that.... why all these extra charges? I think they should...have these charges listed on the menu. Oh and the waitress will tell you that her tip is not included in the service charge so what exactly is? The food was really good and I understand the need to add gratuity, but i don't like the fact that after we paid a 20% gratuity fee, they try to make you tip more on top as if the tip didn't go to them. Just be advised that TIP IS INCLUDED and be aware that they will try to make you tip over that.More

This restaurant looks tiny and packed from the street but has a huge patio area out the back door. If rain is eminent, make sure you get a covered table. Servers are friendly and very helpful if you are first timers eating Cuban food like...we were. I got the beef with sautéed onions and my husband got the fried flank steak, both were delicious. I loved the sweet fried plantain, which was like a fried chunk of sweet potato. The fries are crisp and come in a little wire basket and is a good portion. The black beans are good. We did not try the cocktails, but I had a Coke which they bring in a glass bottle and pour into a glass of ice. There is an 18% service charge, which is split among all the servers, but if you tip on top of that, your server gets to keep all of it (we tipped $10 because she was terrific). Spent about $60 before the tip. Overall, great value and delicious!More

Dined here having visited to explore Little Havana and we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was authentic, plentiful and really tasty and better priced than most other places in Miami. Definitely go to the outdoor dining area at...the rear, it transports you to Cuba with memorabilia and a real authentic feel. A real bonus was the happy hour with all cocktails half price - I’d highly recommend the raspberry MojitoMore

What a wonderful restaurant for families. The food was delicious, our waitress was so pleasant and knowledgeable. Much food options to choose from and even has an affordable kids menu (which not many restaurants have in Miami). The cocktails were fantastic, especially the mojitos… My...only comment is about the wait time to get in: you can’t write your name down with the hostess nor reserve a table over the phone or website m. You just need to wait in line which is fine but not very efficient. Regardless, that didn’t spoil the great experience we had and we’ll definitely come back next time we’ll be in the area.More

Another stop on our food tour and a very pleasant one at that. We were served a traditional Cuban sandwich and I could have eaten another. Nice atmosphere and a lovely outdoor area on the back.

We went on a Wednesday for lunch Arriving about 11:30. We were seated in the back in a covered outdoor courtyard. The person who took our order was very pleasant and accommodating. We ordered the classic mojito for our cocktail (it was the best mojito...I have ever had), two chef empanadas which were filled nicely and did not skimp on the filling. The ceviche and tamale for appetizers also. They were both excellent. We also ordered the Cuban sandwich which was loaded and tasted wonderful. Servers would bring food as it was ready. For dessert we had coconut flan and the tres leche. They topped off our lunch. Service was great. Food was great. The ambience was great. We really enjoyed our visit here. Our bill was $98. As part of the bill there was a service charge of 18% which was the tip for the server. If you read the menu 100% of the service charge goes to the employees. Usually, I would have a problem with a restaurant, adding the tip on, but the service was impeccable. .More
