Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes reacts to Juan Mata scoring twice

Former Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata scored a brace for Galatasaray as the Turkish giants beat Hatayspor 4-0 at the weekend.

On just his second Super Lig start, the 34-year-old, who left Old Trafford as a free agent in the summer following the expiry of his contract, netted twice.

The Spaniard scored two goals in the space of three minutes and both of his strikes came during first half injury time.

Mata’s first came via his head and his second was a simple tap-in.

Following his brace, Mata has three goals and two assists from nine Galatasaray appearances.

From 388 minutes of game time this season, Mata is averaging a goal contribution every 77 minutes since making the move to Istanbul.

One man who was delighted to see Juan Mata score twice at the weekend was Bruno Fernandes who was handed United’s number eight shirt following Mata’s departure.

Fernandes commented on Mata’s Instagram post: “My striker”.

Mata’s Galatasaray sit top of Super Lig and are four points ahead of their fierce rivals Fenerbahce.

Despite winning the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during a trophy-laden career, Galatasaray’s number 64 has never won a league title.

United’s former number eight will be hoping to finally get his hands on a league title during his time in Turkey.

Mata’s contract with the Turkish giants expires in June, but Cim-Bom do have the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months inserted in his deal.

Mata, who spent eight-and-a-half years at Old Trafford after being signed from Chelsea for £37.1m by David Moyes, won the Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield during his time with the Red Devils.

The classy left-footer played under seven different managers (Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick) at the Theatre of Dreams.

He finished his United career with 51 goals and 47 assists from 285 appearances.
