Jordan Pickford drops Everton transfer hint on social media

Jordan Pickford drops Everton transfer hint ahead of summer window opening

Jordan Pickford has dropped a hint that he will be staying at Everton amid speculation over his future.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Chelsea thought to be admirers of the 30-year-old.

However, a social media post from Pickford could allay fears that the goalkeeper is set to jump ship this summer.

Pickford wrote on Instagram (21 May): “Proud of this team and how we overcame the challenges thrown at us during the season. Can’t wait to kick on and build next season. Thanks for your support throughout the season.”

How big a blow would losing Jordan Pickford be for Everton?

Losing Pickford would undoubtedly be a significant blow for the Toffees.

The goalkeeper is England manager Gareth Southgate’s first-choice option between the sticks and Everton would likely struggle to afford a replacement of similar calibre, given the financial crisis the club finds itself in amid a drawn-out attempted takeover by 777 Partners, who appear to be suffering financial issues of their own.

Pickford has made 121 saves this season, posting a save percentage of 70.3 and preventing 2.47 goals more than he would have been expected to concede, helping the team record 13 clean sheets, as per FotMob.

The Englishman is also a fundamental cog in the Toffees’ direct approach from deep set-pieces, connecting with a whopping 400 long balls.

While Everton struggled going forward, they were defensively excellent for much of the campaign, conceding 51 goals – the fourth-fewest in the division and at least seven fewer than the next-best tally.

Keeping Pickford is crucial during a time of such upheaval for the club.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made an approach to seal another Jack Harrison loan.
