Jonas Wind
Age: 23
Position: Centre-forward
Club: Wolfsburg
Country: Denmark (12 caps/ four goals)
Key stats
A graduate of the Copenhagen youth academy, Wind scored 13 goals in 17 outings in the 2016/17 U19 Boys League. He made his debut in the Danish Superliga at the age of 19, before becoming a first-team staple during the 2018/19 season. After scoring 10 times across his first two domestic campaigns with the pros, the 6'3" right-footed striker tallied 11 goals in 18 league games in 2020/21.
Wind moved to Wolfsburg during the 2021/22 winter transfer window, having scored a further 10 goals earlier that season for Copenhagen, including four in five UEFA Conference League outings. The 12-time senior international, who was part of the Denmark team that reached the UEFA Euro 2020 semi-finals, opened his Bundesliga account against Hoffenheim, on only his third appearance in a Wolfsburg shirt, and nothched a brace against Mainz on his 11th.
Plays a bit like: Sebastien Haller
Despite his goalscoring pedigree, Wind doesn't quite fit the No.9 mould. Strong in the air and physical, the Dane has a habit of dropping deep from a starting striker role to get involved in the build-up, much like Ajax's Sebastien Haller in his Eintracht Frankfurt days.
Did you know?
Jonas is the son of Per Wind, a former goalkeeper, two-time Denmark international and 1978 Danish Cup winner, who made over 580 competitive appearances during a 20-year stint with BK Frem.
Wind senior later spent over a decade in the role of Copenhagen goalkeeping coach, before working under first-team boss Stale Solbakken between 2013 and 2021.
