About
“Avatar Country” is a concept album (of sorts) in which they took the nickname of guitarist Jonas Jarlsby – “Kungen”; (the) King in Swedish – and dialled it up to eleven, creating a world in which he was the near-mythological leader of a kingdom. Vocalist Johannes Eckerstrom – in the songs, but especially the videos – plays the role of narrator, royal “hype man” and the propaganda minister of Avatar Country.
Each of the songs charts the course of a period in the country’s history. “The King Wants You” takes a young soldier’s viewpoint of Avatar Country’s war against a rival nation – characterised in the video as being EDM/dubstep against Avatar’s metal – and how blind loyalty has amassed the country’s army and sent them against a foe they don’t know.
