America's Got Talent night one results show recap

Here’s how the night went down:

The night began with a recap of Tuesday night’s performance show to refresh the audiences’ memories as to how each artist did on Tuesday night.

Then host Terry Crews asked Simon Cowell why they changed the format of this year’s show and made it so much tougher to make the finale.

“We did it because the live shows started to get boring over the years because to me everybody should bring their A-game,” Simon said. “Of course, nine people go home. Some people may not like it; tough for them.”

First called to the front of the stage by Terry were Wyn Starks and Duo Rings. He announced the first act still in the competition was Duo Rings.

Next to get their results were Freckled Zelda and Maddie. Of course, it was no surprise that Maddie, who is Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer, made the Top 5.

“I can’t be any more happy. I’m thankful for every one of you,” Maddie said.

The voting outcome continued with the reveal that The Brown Brothers beat out Fusion Japan for a spot in the Top 5.

Next, Yu Hojin faced off against Aiko Tanaka and Mr. Pants for the fourth spot in the Top 5. Magician Yu Hojin got the good news that he was still in the competition.

The final two acts to get the voting results were Chapel Hart and The Pack Drumline. Again, it was no surprise that Chapel Hart, another Golden Buzzer act, made the cut.

Then, it was time for Season 11 third-place finalist John Dorenbos to perform some close-up magic.

Next, Terry announced the Top 3: Yu Hojin, Maddie and Chapel Hart, which sent Duo Rings and The Brown Brothers home.

The first act going into the finals from night two of the Live Shows was revealed to be Chapel Hart.

“Well deserved girls," Heidi Klum said. "You sang your way into America’s heart and my heart.”

"I am so happy,” Simon added.

Then it was between Yu and Maddie. The act joining Chapel Hart, Drake Milligan, and Avery Dixon in the finals – and it was a shocker -- is Yu Hojin!

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
