Has Jon Carin fallen out with Gilmour?

Just noticed a few things. I know he wasn't on the last leg of Gilmour's Rattle That Lock tour, but that could easily have been due to other commitments. However...

I noticed him replying to a comment on his Facebook page where someone had said "You should stop touring with Mr Grumpy and tour with the guitar god" and he replied "Which is which?"

Also he posted about how due to "the Blue Meanies" the official Pink Floyd Facebook page no longer wished Floyd alumni such as him a happy birthday.

Finally he recently gave an interview in which he shocked all by claiming that he played virtually all keys and all piano on The Division Bell, including things very much assumed to have been Wright, including the piano on Marooned. He also was fairly disparaging about the remixes on The Later Years.

Has anyone else noticed this? I don't think it's necessarily due to working with Waters as he's managed both for many years, though it could be related (schedule clash, loyalty in the recent re-falling out etc). Not stirring, just interested!

I too have wondered why he abruptly left the tour. And why Phil Manzanera did as well. And why Dick Parry wasn't there at all.

Actually, the question in my head is more "Has David Gilmour fallen out with people?" What happened to the nice family of the 2006 tour?

Yeah and to be honest Gilmour's band didn't sound as good with the new line up. I love Gdansk but struggle with Pompeii.

As far as I know David extended his tour by adding a handful of shows and Phil and Dick had scheduling conflicts

I travelled from Australian and saw Gilmour in 2015 and 2016 at The Royal Albert and I assure you, both bands were as good as each other. Jon and Phil both had other commitments prior to the start of the RTL tour and it was never a secret that the band would change after the holiday break. Parry just didn’t want to tour.

These, things have been discussed as well on Yeeshkul and Hoffman, so there might be some truth in it.

What's Yeeshkul and Hoffman?

Both are music forums. Yeeshkul is basically for Floyd live shows collectors. The Steve Hoffman Music forum discusses all music, but Pink Floyd threads get hundreds of pages with questions and answers.

Yeah, there seems to be some tension for sure in the PF camp. I noticed that he didn't even bother to mention Andy Jackson by name either, but praised James Guthrie.

There was a huge discussion on this topic on the Steve Hoffman forums on The Later Years page forum discussion. Here is the search link from the Steve Hoffman forums The Later Years, Jon Carin search. But also Jon Carin had to leave midway thru the Rattle That Lock tour (RTL Tour) due to a prior obligation with Roger Waters to tour during the second half of the RTL tour, as with Phil Manzanera he had to leave to record album that was plan as well during the RTL tour. All this was announced on David Gilmour's website during the tour around the third leg of the tour.

And no one with any nous believed a word of it. Guy Pratt has since confirmed that the whole band, including him, were for a period: fired and he was lucky to make it back in. As for Manzanera, you don’t authorise a statement that you are leaving a band with immediate effect if everything is hunky dory.

For what it's worth, Carin mentioned in his Facebook page that the golden years of Floyd were Dark Side all the way through The Final Cut. So, take that as you will.
