BLACK-OWNED

&

OPERATED

Joker’s Wild Spades was created to celebrate Black culture. Failing to find a spades app inclusive of the rule set I grew up playing in the black community, it was made clear that there wasn’t an app crafted for us.

Joker’s Wild Spades was created with the intent to introduce the world to this version of spades; newcomers and elite players alike. While many know this set of rules, millions will now be able to learn them as well.

Download the Joker’s Wild Spades app for free in the Apple or Google Store today.

All I ask is that you tell your partner and join in on all the fun!

HOW TO PLAY

THE RULES
  • THE BASICS
Spades is played with 4 players divided into two teams. On the app you can play single player, multiplayer, or in tournament mode. Spades is played with a standard 52-card deck. The 2 of hearts and 2 of clubs are removed from the deck and replaced with the 2 jokers.
  • OBJECTIVE
The objective is to reach the target score by bidding and winning the appropriate number of books. On the app the targets are 150, 300, or 500 points.
  • WHAT IS A BOOK
A book is created after all four players play a card. For each hand dealt there are 13 books. The winner of the book is the player with the highest ranking card.
  • RANKING
The spades suit trumps all. In this version there are a total of 16 spades In this order, the top 5 ranking spades are: Big Joker, Little Joker, 2 of Diamonds, 2 of Spades, Ace of Spades. In the remaining suits the ace is the highest card and the 3 is the lowest. Remember the 2 of hearts and the 2 of clubs are removed. The 2 of diamonds and the 2 of spades are ranked in the top 5.
  • SPADES BROKEN
Players must always follow the suit of the leading card. A spade can only be played when a player runs out of cards in the leading suit. This is called spades broken. Players can only lead with a spade after spades are broken.
  • BIDDING
Each player decides how many Books they expect to win based on the cards in their hand. The minimum bid per player is one. As a team the minimum bid is 4. However, collectively, both teams must have a total of 11 bids per round. Every player must make a bid; no player may pass.
  • GOING BLIND
This is when a team bids without looking at their hand. You can only go blind when your team is losing by at least 100 points. The minimum blind bid is 6. When a team wins a blind bid, they are rewarded double the points. When they don’t make their blind bid, they are penalized double the points.
  • SCORING
If a team matches or exceeds the amount of books they bid, they receive ten points for each successful book bid. If the team exceeds their bid, those books are considered overs. Overs do not have a point value but if a team gets 10 overs, they are penalized 100 points. If a team makes less books than the amount bid, that is considered getting stuck. If a team gets stuck, the score is decreased by the amount of books the team bid. Getting stuck 3 times results in the loss of the entire game. If a team bids 10 books and makes their bid , 200 points are rewarded. If a team bids 13 and makes their bid, they automatically win the entire game. So, the goal is to always fulfill the exact bid.
