Johnny Paycheck

AKA: Donny Young, John Austin Paycheck, and Donald Eugene Lytle

About Johnny Paycheck

Johnny Paycheck, born as Donald Eugene Lytle, was a country music artist, who was born in Ohio in 1938 and died at the beginning of 2003.

In his younger years, he played the bass and steel guitar for George Jones and later, he co-wrote the song Once You’ve Had The Best.

In 1964 he legally changed his name to Johnny Paycheck. His best-selling song from this period is She’s All I Got.

Finally, his new producer, Billy Sherrill, significally changed Johnny’s sound and image which did result in hits like I’m The Only Hell (My Mama Ever Raised) and Take This Job and Shove It. In 1977 Johnny received an Academy of Country Music Career Achievement award.

I’m a man who believes that right is right and wrong is wrong. Treat me right, and I will give you my all. Treat me wrong, and I will give you nothing. They don’t like me for that, but that’s the way I am."
