John L. Reiter Jr.

Obituary

John was a resident of Harrison, Ohio for 64 years, while maintaining apartments in Clifton, Miamitown, Covington, and Mt. Adams. He graduated from Harrison High School, class of 1977 and then attended the University of Cincinnati from 1978-1985. He was a student and parishioner at St. John the Baptist Grade School as a child and attended masses at St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish in Covington, Kentucky later in life.

John worked in the restaurant business from 1975-1990, paying his way through college and grooming his sales skills for his future career. Some of his favorite stories were of his days as a server at Johnny Bench’s Home Plate and ChiChi’s, where he came out of his shell, made people laugh, and earned respect.

John worked in national account sales for over 35 years, with the first 14 years as Director of Business Development with Paper Manufacturers (PM Co.). He went on to start OneSource Marketing, LLC, a national account management agency that filled a need for small manufacturers looking for entry into select accounts and channels. Throughout his career John traveled extensively, including 46 of the 50 states, the UK, and Germany.

In his younger years, John was a skilled softball player, winning a Metro Championship in 1986 and COED runner up in 1989. He also attended 7 Cincinnati Reds fantasy camps. John was an avid golfer and member of Clovernook Country Club for more than a decade.

Later in life, John enjoyed spending free time learning history and sharing the same with the younger friends that he always said helped keep him young at heart.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Rosemary Reiter, and his sister Patricia Reiter. John is survived by his sisters Linda Reiter, her children Will Loichinger and Kathy Krider, her granddaughter Bella, and Jeanette (Tom) Losekamp, and also by “the daughters he never had,” Amber (Kevin) Chapman and Cybéle (Billy) McGazi, along with their families. Amber’s children especially brought joy and purpose to John’s life, with the chance to experience all the blessings bestowed upon a loving “Uncle John.”

John was the kind of person you would want on your team. He was selfless, but proud; extremely generous, but conservative; open-minded, yet judicious; humorous, and incredibly hard working. He was most proud of his farm heritage and would often refer to himself as “an old farm boy from Harrison.” When people would pursue him on it, he would always say, “In all honesty, I just come from farm stock. My father was a true farmer and the greatest man I ever knew.” In which case, John was a chip off the old block.
