John Williams hinted that he was going to retire several years ago, but that turned out not to be the case. It seems he just couldn’t stay away from making great music and sharing it with the public. Instead of taking it easy, the 92-year-old composer is scoring new hits on the Billboard charts, adding to his already historic discography.
This week, the celebrated musician and composer debuts his latest release Indiana Jones: The Complete CD Collection at No. 4 on Billboard’s Classical Crossover Albums chart. Williams is very, very familiar with not only this tally, but the highest tier on this list.
Indiana Jones: The Complete CD Collection marks Williams’ fortieth top 10 hit on the Classical Crossover Albums chart. That is surely one of the most impressive accumulations of appearances between Nos. 1 and 10 on the tally–and it may in fact be a record.
As if earning a new top 10 on a Billboard ranking wasn’t impressive enough for the Oscar winner, this latest win only tells part of the story of Williams’ success on the tally this week. He actually manages back-to-back placements on the same list this frame.
Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny is back on the Classical Crossover Albums chart this week, spurred, in part, by the release of the larger collection. That soundtrack appears at No. 3 on the roster.
The Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny soundtrack has now spent 14 weeks on the chart, including this latest frame. It’s one of Williams’ 13 career No. 1s on the list.
Almost all of the titles that Williams has sent to the Classical Crossover Albums chart have found their way into the top 10. He’s pushed 49 different releases to the tally, with 40 of them reaching the highest arena, at least for a short time.
Williams has composed the music for all five movies in the Indiana Jones franchise. He started in 1981 and has stuck with it through the most recent addition, which arrived in theaters in 2023. His work on the series has earned him four Academy Award nominations–though he hasn’t won any of them–as well as at least five Grammy nominations and a single win.
