Jeff Berlin was fired by Zappa for asking for more money, during rehearsals.

John Sykes was fired from Whitesnake is a dispute over money.

I have read - I think in Martin Popoff's book - Sail Away - really interesting book - that the thing that did it was - when David Coverdale lost his voice and needed treatment - John Sykes suggested looking for a new singer

Most of the people mentioned in this thread are far from famous. Unless I missed the part about being famous only to music nerds.

(Please, no offense intended- I am a music nerd!!!)

Bob Stinson forced out of The Replacements in '86 - with the group apparently hoping their collective dysfunction would follow him out the door -

John Evans was great. I pretty much lost interest in them after he was gone.

Arthur Lee fired all of Love for the recording of Forever Changes----- to begin with, to make a point. He recruited top session musicians to make them jealous and clean up their act, and it worked. He quickly brought them back, and the rest is history: one of the greatest albums ever made.

Did they all quit afterward or did Arthur fire them? I can't remember. Lol, I know that shortly after they cut Forever Changes, Lee was walking past the local pawn shop and saw the bass player and Johnny Echol's gear in the window.

Carlos Santana was fired from the band of his own name along the 1971 "Santana III" tour. No idea exactly why, though. Anyone with some info?
It didn't last too long (two weeks?) as the audiences would't quite buy the Carlos-less band, for "some" reason, haha.

SRV was too good to be tied down to Bowie's band

He was soon to release his own debut album (Texas Flood) and, as has been stated elsewhere, DB's management did not want SRV promoting his own record during the tour, which was why SRV chose to bail out, in order to focus on his album.

Y&T (not as famous as they should have been)- drummer Leonard Haze was fired in 1986 and rhythm guitarist Joey Alves was fired in 1989.

Brian Wilson was fired in the early 80s by the rest of The Beach Boys for being too disfunctional

Also can't forget Mike firing Brian and Al after the 2011 anniversary tour so that the BB could have "younger" musicians instead. I'm so glad I got to see them on that tour, a "once in a lifetime" event :)

If you can find Joel Selvin's book Summer of Love, it has the "Santana without Carlos" story. According to it, they only lasted two days on tour without him. There is a tape of one of the shows (Neal Schon as the only guitarist, easy to notice the difference in "Black Magic Woman").

Quiet fired. Several members of the band booked a reunion tour without him, not bothering to tell him. He understandably filed a lawsuit.

The former was a ploy in order to terrify Brian into getting back into the care of Landy.

The second was a matter of the band never having an actual meeting to figure out how long the tour would go on etc etc and after Mike Love got an email from Brian's wife saying "No more shows for Wilson."
Mike and Bruce had "Beach Boys" gigs longstanding booked and simply honored those commitments.

    Typical Beach Boys dysfunction.

I found this info on the db.etree live shows collectors site for the Boston 11 Oct. 1971 show:
"This tour was a rather unfavorable one for Santana. Due to David Brown's severe heroin use, he was replaced by Tom Rutley in August. In late September, due to an argument, the group toured without Carlos Santana, which Santana dismissed the group minis him as a "Santana tribute." In mid-October, Santana returned to the band, and Michael Carabello was taken out of the group. Santana returned because during a series of shows in New York City, the group was booed because Santana wasn't playing with them. An audience member from one of these shows, Mingo Lewis was chosen to play with the group in the meantime."
    Hope this helps.

I guess very few fans know that Kim Simmonds, some kind of a "Roger McGuinn" in Savoy Brown (i.e. the only permanent member in 50+ years) was even fired by his own brother-cum-manager Harry Simmonds in their early days (in 1968, I believe) over some "behaviour". Didn't last longer than like a few weeks and he was let back in - and obviously behaved well enough thereafter....

Toto fired several singers starting with Bobby Kimball, then Fergie Frederksen, Joseph Williams, and Jean Michael Bryon.

Foreigner fired singer Johnny Edwards after the "Unusual Heat" album/tour.

Was Gregg Rolie fired from Journey or did he leave after Neil Schon hired Perry as their lead singer?
