It’s been 15 years since our favorite crocodile hunter Steve Irwin left our planet, but his spirit, videos, and family still brighten our days and make us love wildlife more and more. However, ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ producer John Stainton has come out in a recent episode of ‘I’ve Got News For You’ podcast, in which he and host Andrew Bucklow discussed the legendary Steve Irwin.
Stainton felt like something was wrong while filming ‘Ocean’s Deadliest (Irwin’s ill-fated documentary) and recalled a “very, very weird” speech Irwin gave. He explained that it felt like a “finale speech”,
“A couple of days before we started the show, he made a little speech to all the crew that were up there catching crocs for his research trip — which I joined at the end with our crew. He was sort of thanking them all for being who they were and for helping him. It was like a finale speech.”
‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Producer John Stainton Said Steve Irwin Made A “Very Weird” Speech Before He Died
Stainton witnessed his friend’s death and every bit that was caught on camera. Though, he couldn’t shake the weird feeling he had that felt like it was foreshadowed in Irwin’s speech. He described this moment as a ‘premonition’ of his own death ahead of the trip, inspiring him to write a living will before filming.
The news of Irwin’s death shocked the world who had loved watching the enthusiastic animal lover during the 10-year span of ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ and its spinoffs. Stainton said that his friend died, “doing what he loved.”
Steve would be proud looking at his family now, as both of his children have followed along right in his path and even have their own series on Discovery+ called ‘Crikey! It’s the Irwins”.
