John Cho began his career by having extremely small roles in films and finally got his big break in 2004 with the late-night comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle as the lead alongside Kal Penn.

Ever since he'd been given the chance to star in a film he's been able to build his career by getting a role in the Star Trek movie reboots and films like Columbus and Searching. Hopefully, he continues to be cast in starring roles as he always brings a fantastic performance to the film. Let's revisit some of his top-rated films according to IMDb!

Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay (2008) - 6.6

The second film of this franchise is similar to the first in the basic plot of two best friends getting into increasingly outrageous and dangerous situations as their day goes on.

This film starts right where the first one ends as the two are hopping on a plane to go to Amsterdam and are profiled as terrorists and sent to Guantanamo Bay. If you enjoyed the first film you'll enjoy this one as it's the same type of movie and yet it's even more over-the-top than the first was.

Grandma (2015) - 6.7

This film tells the story of a lesbian poet (Lily Tomlin) dealing with her recent death of her long-term partner and split with a younger partner where Tomlin states that the relationship meant nothing. She gets a surprise visit from her granddaughter (Julia Garner) asking for money for an abortion.

The two go out on the road and try to come up with the cash quick, learning about each other along the way with Tomlin's character thinking back on her harsh words ending her last relationship. Although John Cho only has a small role in this one, it's an interesting film and worth checking out.

Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) - 7.0

This crime-drama is loosely based on a true story that follows a group of bored well to do Asian Americans who start a life of petty crime.

Although there are some mixed reviews, overall this film is a good watch with an interesting story that goes deeper than the surface. Also, it's an unofficial part of the Fast & Furious franchise as Sung Kang plays the role of Han Lue in this film as well as the official Fast & Furious movies.

Mirai (2018) - 7.0

Mirai is a Japanese animated film that tells the story of a young boy who is jealous of his newborn little sister and the attention she is getting. The story quickly becomes fantastical as the boy is guided by an older version of his sister to time travel and is shown different stories of his family at different points of their lives.

John Cho voices the boy's father in the English version of the film.

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004) - 7.1

The first Harold & Kumar film chronicles a night in the lives of best friends Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) as they proceed to smoke, get high, see a commercial for White Castle and cannot ignore the instant craving they both get for the burgers.

Their simple drive to the restaurant turns into an exaggerated and wild night that continually escalates and the viewer can't guess what's going to happen next. It's a fun and outrageous film that's an essential watch for any John Cho fan.

Star Trek Beyond (2016) - 7.1

The third and latest film in the Star Trek reboot franchise sees the crew stranded and separated after crash landing on a planet. The third film was different from the first two because it took place entirely on the planet instead of mostly on the Enterprise ship.

John Cho returns for his third portrayal of crewmember Hikaru Sulu. Although it's not as highly rated as the first two films overall it's still a successful installment in the franchise.

Columbus (2017) - 7.2

John Cho stars in this dramatic film as he travels to Columbus, Indiana to visit his father. His father is a successful architect that falls ill while giving a talk and his son (Cho) quickly rushes from South Korea to take care of his estranged father. He meets a librarian and architecture enthusiast (Haley Lu Richardson.)

As she shows him around the city, they discuss the architecture and slowly begin to open up about themselves. Columbus has great reviews and is worth the watch especially to see John Cho in the lead.

Searching (2018) - 7.6

John Cho on Facetime in Searching

Searching is a thriller that follows a father (John Cho) and his desperate search to find any information about his daughter's sudden disappearance. The entire film is portrayed through web and news cameras and online screens as he frantically searches through his daughter's computer and contacts trying to find any clues.

It's an essential watch for any John Cho fan as he does a stellar job acting mostly on his own and the basis for the film is successful.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - 7.7

The second Star Trek film sees the same crew face a familiar villain from the original show, Khan. The crew is working better together, but they're still a ragtag group and Captain Kirk is momentarily removed from his post, but when an attack happens that kills senior officers of Star Fleet he is reinstated and his team track down the villains.

Overall it's an engaging and successful sequel to the 2009 film.

Star Trek (2009) - 7.9

The first Star Trek film of the rebooted franchise sees the crew of the Enterprise meet for the first time. The crew includes Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Bones (Karl Urban), Chekov (Anton Yelchin), and Sulu (John Cho).
