John Bowne High School Reviews
Rating 3.62 out of 5 537 reviews
The school is well-protected and easy to navigate. there is a large array of clubs/activities/extracurriculars/sports that are simple to apply to. With a choice of AP classes and tutoring schedules, the guidance counselors are helpful and easy to contact. The design of the lunchroom resembles a restaurant and overall is clean. However, the number of AP classes is limited for each year and many students can be loud and obnoxious at times. I would like to see an upgrade in materials available for study halls and for students who need the time to work, because sometimes the library is taken for teachers to have a class.
John Bowne is a really diverse school with students and teachers from many races and cultures. As a senior of this high school I have experienced a lot and know what happens in this school. Firstly, the inside of the school has thin hallways that us students get clumped up in and it causes traffic jams, which gets worse after students constantly stop in the halls and talk to their gangs of friends. In addition, there are a lot of fights that happen in this school which get out of control and have to be stopped by security. Speaking of security the main entrance has three metal detectors that scan the students and visitors, which mostly have problems working and cause problems for the students trying to attend their classes on time. However, despite all these negatives this school has caring staff and teachers who care for the students' future and education. There are also many sports and clubs that students can attend which improves the school spirit and community.
My experience has been good. i’ve made some good friends. people are very friendly, the school staff are very helpful as well as the teachers. most of the teachers are very kind and care about how you’re doing in their class. The school is very diverse which helps you understand and appreciate different cultures as well as making friends from different background. the extra curricular activities like jrotc which i’m in helped me become a better speaker and break away from my quiet and shy personality as well as making me a better leader with me being the pt commander. the job requires me to command 20 plus students on workouts as well as requiring me to do research about body workouts to teach my fellow students. I’m required to speak infront of loud crowds which helped me develop a strong, brave character.
