‘I Hadn’t Seen the Original’: Stephen Amell Breaks Silence on Suits: L.A. Casting
Stephen Amell discusses his casting in the upcoming NBC pilot Suits: L.A. which takes place in the same universe as the original legal drama series.

Suits L.A. has been on a tear lately with exciting casting decisions for the ambitious spin-off. Stephen Amell, famous for his portrayal of Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow, has been cast as the lead. He will play Ted Black "a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others," or in other words, a Harvey Specter-type.

What Happens in Suits: L.A.?

The official logline for the series reads: "His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved."

The First Purge star Lex Scott Davis has been cast as the show’s female lead. Davis will play Erica Rollins, a “a savvy and strong-willed rising star.” Her character will work at Black Lane Law, Ted Black’s firm, which focuses on criminal and entertainment law cases. Also joining the cast is The Walking Dead’s Josh McDermitt. On the hit zombie show, McDermitt played Eugene Porter, who claims to be a scientist that knows the cure to the zombie plague. In Suits L.A. he will be an old friend of Amell’s character. "Fifteen years ago, Ted Black (Amell) joined forces with his old buddy, Stuart Lane (McDermitt), to build an L.A. law firm, Black Lane Law, that specializes in criminal and entertainment law."

Suits L.A. has some big shoes to fill, as its predecessor, Suits has become one of the biggest shows in the world. First airing on the USA Network, the series saw some success. Led by Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross and Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, the show found a new life on steaming, becoming the most popular offering per Nielsen. The show also stars Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as Rachel Zane, Sarah Rafferty as Donna Paulsen, Rock Hoffman as Louis Litt, and Gina Torres as Jessica Pearson. Suits’ streaming popularity sparked, not just a spin-off, but a major broadcast syndication deal.

Suits L.A. started filming in March 2024, so it will be ready for the Fall 2024 TV slate.
