Station Confirms New Job For CT Meteorologist Joe 'Storm' Furey: Update

He's about to join another Connecticut station.

Looks like longtime Connecticut meteorologist Joe Furey has a new job. According to his Facebook page, the 30-year veteran, most recently with Fox61 News, will join WTNH-TV, Channel 8, on Oct. 2.

Furey updated his Facebook page with the WTNH logo today, Sept. 11, and the "About" section mentioned the Oct. 2 start date. A short while later, WTNH posted a Facebook Live chat with Furey - hosted by the station's social media expert Vanessa Wojtusiak - announcing the move.

"Meteorology is all about trust and keeping your family safe," said WTNH General Manager Richard Graziano in a statement. "Connecticut has weathered storms with Joe for decades. With the scale of recent storms this hurricane season and with winter weather around the corner, Joe’s experience complements Storm Team 8’s commitment to keeping our viewers informed and safe. Connecticut has grown up with Joe. He is a trusted staple in the community; he’s Connecticut’s own – Joe."

Furey's new gig was first reported by The Laurel, which writes that speculation had been rampant for weeks about where "Storm" Furey was going to land. His title will be co-chief meteorologist, and he will be handling evening duty at the station.

At WTNH, Furey will be joining Gil Simmons, who is returning to the airwaves on Sept. 18 following a lengthy medical leave. Simmons will be back in his morning role.
