The First Lady, Jill Biden, tweeted her stand after the Supreme Court overturned the rule of the Roe vs. Wade trial. Following her tweet, U.S. Army’s retired general, Lieutenant General Gary Volesky, tweeted about her comment which appeared to mock the First Lady. After his comment, the Army suspended him and put him under investigation.

Jill Biden tweeted that for about 50 years women have had the right to make their decisions. This right was stolen by the Roe vs Wade ruling. She further added that while women have been devasted by this grave injustice, they would not be silent. They would not sit back and watch the progress they have made over the years slip away.
On the First Lady’s tweet, Volesky wrote that he was glad that she knew what a woman was. Though the tweet has been deleted, Volesky came under fire as he got suspended from his current role. Volesky was working as a consultant for the Army before he was suspended. He had a USD 92/hour contract with the Army performing the role of a senior mentor and advisor. He was advising the top military personnel about war strategy and military activities.

Cynthia Smith, the Army’s spokeswoman confirmed Volesky’s suspension and said that he was under an inquiry. Till the inquiry is not concluded, Volesky would remain suspended.

Volesky is a war veteran who has been decorated by the Government. He is a three-star general who has received the Silver Star, the U.S. military’s highest honour, for his bravery in Iraq. Volesky has also served the country in the war in Afghanistan and the Gulf War. He has commanded the I Corps which is one of the top formations of the Army. He also acted as 101st Airborne Division’s Commander.

Between 2012 and 2014, Volesky served as the chief of the Public Affairs division of the U.S. Army. After that, he retired in 2020.

Besides the recent comment, Volesky has been involved in other controversial tweets too. In 2021, Rep. Liz Cheney tweeted about his ongoing investigation into the Capitol Attack that happened on the 6th of January. Cheney wrote that he was honoured to serve on the Select Committee looking into the attack. He added that their oath to the Constitution of the country should be above partisan politics. Following this tweet, Volesky commented that it was all about partisan politics, yet another controversial tweet.
