Local Roundup: Bats Heat Up For Martins Ferry vs. Beavers; Jets Double Up St. Clairsville

MARTINS FERRY – Walsh University recruit Danielle Lude drove in five runs Wednesday night as Martins Ferry (8-2) defeated visiting Beaver Local, 8-1, in high school softball action.

Lude singled twice and doubled to spark the Purple Riders 12-hit attack.

Giana Chirpas singled twice and tripled while Samantha Goddard had a three-bagger.

Freshman Maddie Lucas struck out a career-high 10 Beavers in going the distance. She gave up four singles and walked four.

Union Local 14, St. Clairsville 7

MORRISTOWN – The host Jets snapped a 5-all deadlock by scoring eight times in the bottom of the third against the Red Devils.

Lauren Miller knocked in two runs with a single and double. Laken Vinskovich doubled twice to drive in one run and Myah Martin had two singles.

Kylie Stidd picked up the win inside the circle with six strikeouts.

Jenna Wodarczyk and Anna Kain each doubled for St. Clairsville. Brenna Price singled twice.

Shadyside 27, Shenandoah 1

SARAHSVILLE – The Tigers collected 20 hits and scored 13 runs in the top of the fourth inning in zapping the Zeps.

Senior Shayna Beegle blasted two home runs, doubled twice and knocked in eight runs. She also scored five times. Macy Hendershot had two doubles and an RBI, while Makenzie Zdunczyk drove in three runs with a single and double. Makayla Faulkner, Abby Gorrell, Taylor Fulton, Josey Greenwood and Arianna Saxton all had two ribbies each.

Fulton fanned six, didn’t walk a batter and allowed just two hits.

Monroe Central 6, Barnesville 2

Barnesville 5, Monroe Central 3

WOODSFIELD – The Seminoles and Shamrocks split a doubleheader at Monroe Park.

In the opener, Shyann Baker doubled and homered for Monroe Central. Karlee Haslam doubled in a run and Kazziah Cecil struck out three with no walks.

Maclarin Craft had two singles for the winners. Karsyn Muncy had a double and two RBI.

In the second game, Barnesville scored four times in the top of the seventh to earn the split.

Cecil singled twice and knocked in a pair of runs.

Ellie Thompson homered in the first game while Chaela Smolira homered in the second.

Maddy Schaffer and Thompson each doubled in the second outing. Payton Dudzik drove in two in the ‘Rocks win.

Magnolia 17, Williamstown 2

WILLIAMSTOWN – The Blue Eagles scored 12 runs in the second inning on their way to a five-inning victory over the Hornets.

Mallory McDiffitt hit a home run and drove in four runs, Jessa Anderson and Maleigha Tamborello each doubled and each drove in three.

Madeline Delaney and Sienna McKeever each drove in two. Haidyn Bland doubled.

McDiffitt also struck out four in picking up the win.

BASEBALL

Linsly 14, Clay-Battelle 0

WHEELING – The Cadets warded off the visiting CeeBees in just five innings Wednesday, spraying 17 hits in a rout for the hosts.

Linsly knocked the ball around the yard Wednesday to the tune of six extra-base hits. Evan Zido and Nate Berhalter each doubled, while Jaxon Murray smacked two doubles. Andrew Skadra and Patrick Christ each hit for triples.

Kyle White and Carson Gessler led Linsly with three RBI apiece.

Zido, Tucker Doty and Chris Upton combined to pitch five innings of one-hit baseball, each striking out one batter.

Martins Ferry 13, Beaver Local 3

MARTINS FERRY – The Purple Riders (6-5) got above the .500 mark after an 0-4 start as freshman Hunter Shutler tossed a three-hitter, fanning five and walking one.

Turner Krol drove in four runs with a pair of singles, while Ayden Ludolph singled and tripled to plate two. Baron Lucey also singled and tripled, recording one RBI.

Morgantown 8, Wheeling Park 1

MORGANTOWN – The Patriots lost for the second day in a row, this time to the state-ranked Mohigans on Dale Miller Field inside Mylan Park.

Wheeling Park was only able to muster four singles by four different players.

Paden City 16, Hundred 6

HUNDRED – Bryson Stackpole drove in four runs with a pair of singles to pace the Wildcats (10-6) past the host Hornets.

Kayden Myers knocked in three runs with a single and two doubles. Jeremiah Thomas also had three RBI.

Linsly 7, Parkersburg South 0

PARKERSBURG – The Cadets swept past the Patriots at the Erickson Sports Complex.

Singles winners were Wesley Palmer (8-1); Luis Brulles (8-2); Jaycob Sauvageau (8-1) and Andrew Hoag (8-0). Winning in doubles were Brulles-Sauvageau (8-3); Palmer-Hoag (8-1) and Agustin Liu-Antonio Fernandez (8-2).

Girls

Parkersburg South 4, Linsly 3

The Cadets won a pair of singles matches and one doubles.

Kate Bonderchuk won at No. 2 singles (9-7) and Olivia Rosenthal (8-2) at No. 4. In doubles, Rhiannon Jones and Bella Andy (No. 3) won 8-4.
