Sly and the Family Stone Discography
Jerry Martini is an American saxophonist born on October 1, 1943, in Colorado. He is best known as a founding member and saxophonist of the influential funk and soul group Sly and the Family Stone.
Martini began playing the saxophone at a young age and was heavily influenced by jazz and R&B music. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s and quickly became a part of the burgeoning music scene there.
In 1967, Martini formed Sly and the Family Stone with singer-songwriter Sly Stone. The group quickly rose to fame with hits such as “Dance to the Music” and “Everyday People.” Martini’s playing on these songs was characterized by his soulful sound and his ability to create memorable horn lines.
Throughout the 1970s, Martini continued to perform and record with Sly and the Family Stone. The group’s sound evolved during this time, incorporating elements of rock, funk, and soul. Martini’s playing continued to be an integral part of the group’s sound, and he was known for his dynamic live performances.
In addition to his work with Sly and the Family Stone, Martini has also collaborated with several other musicians throughout his career. He has played with artists such as Prince, Graham Central Station, and the Jerry Garcia Band.
