What the World Was Watching: WWF Superstars – December 19, 1992
By LScisco on 5th April 2024
Vince McMahon, Bobby Heenan, and Jerry Lawler are in the booth, taped from Dayton, Ohio. Heenan wants the end of Mr. Perfect’s career for Christmas.
Opening Contest: Crush (24-0) beats Dark Destiny via submission to the head vice at 2:55:
Destiny is wearing a black body suit and mask. It is Duane Gill underneath, evidenced by the tights being the same ones for the Executioners. Destiny flies out of the ring from a Crush right hand and Crush press slams him into the ring, where he finishes the masked man with the head vice. In the split screen, Crush wishes fans Merry Christmas.
Gene Okerlund’s Update segment recaps the fight that ensued by Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Razor Ramon, and Ric Flair on last week’s episode. Flair and Ramon promise to stalk Bret until they get the WWF title.
Kamala (w/Harvey Wippleman & Kim Chee) (22-5) beats Bill Koby after a splash to the back at 1:54:
Kim Chee keeps up his routine of berating Kamala before the squash. Heenan argues that Kamala should be allowed to pin men when they are on their chest because he is a foreigner. After the match, Kamala keeps rolling Koby over and Kim Chee argues more with him about how to pin someone. When the video board shows the finish, Kim Chee slaps Kamala on the chest several times.
Slick urges fans to be givers during the holiday season.
The Big Bossman (23-3-2) pins Barry Hardy after the Bossman Slam at 1:44:
During the match, the clown ties a wire from one guardrail to the next near the entrance. Heenan says that this year’s Royal Rumble will have an international flavor, ignoring the in-ring action as the Bossman cruises to a quick win. After the bell, the Bossman handcuffs Hardy to the bottom rope.
The Bossman runs to the locker room as he usually does and trips over the clown’s wire. The clown laughs himself silly over the incident. Like others, the Bossman does not retaliate.
Yokozuna (w/Mr. Fuji) (9-0) defeats Richard Meyers after the sit-down splash off the second rope at 1:33:
Meyers worked for the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation in the early 1990s and worked an enhancement match against the Beverly Brothers the previous year.
Meyers takes a nice bump from a release German suplex from Yokozuna at the beginning of the match. Yokozuna could get the win there but he runs through a few other big man moves before the sit-down splash, which gives him his tenth win of the year. McMahon wonders how anyone would be able to eliminate Yokozuna from the Royal Rumble.
Joe Bevin interviews two of Santa’s helpers, which are the Bushwhackers dressed in Santa costumes. They talk about not picking your nose and eating all your sardines. Then they lick Bevins, which makes McMahon laugh.
Damien Demento (4-1) beats Kerry Davis after the knee drop at 2:13:
Heenan and Lawler talk up Demento but he does not do anything that is remotely devastating outside of a neckbreaker. In the split screen, Demento argues that extreme wickedness and brutality mix together to produce something that fans know. McMahon does not know what to say about that.
Okerlund does the first Royal Rumble Report. The first six superstars announced for the Royal Rumble are Ted DiBiase, Tatanka, Yokozuna, Bob Backlund, the Berzerker, and the Undertaker.
Lawler tells McMahon that he is going to issue a royal proclamation and put himself in the Royal Rumble. When McMahon says that WWF President Jack Tunney has to put Lawler into the match, Lawler rebuts that a king outranks a president.
Non-Title Match: Money Incorporated (WWF Tag Team Champions w/Jimmy Hart) (30-3) beat Laverne McGill & Chris Hahn when Ted DiBiase submits Hahn to the Million Dollar Dream at 2:35:
IRS tells fans before the match that according to Article 136 of the U.S. tax code, fans are guilty of cheating on their taxes. McMahon wonders why DiBiase is in the Royal Rumble and IRS is not. Heenan does a fun bit where he explains that he paid taxes on $280 of income last year. The clown is seen in the crowd and a woman kisses him on the cheek, making him laugh like a maniac. As the Tag Team champions beat on Hahn, the Nasty Boys appear in the split screen and say that they want the Tag Team titles for Christmas, as well as Hart’s head on a platter. After rolling to an easy win, DiBiase stuffs $100 down Hahn’s mouth before IRS retrieves it.
WWF Champion Bret Hart and the babyface side of the roster wish WWF fans a Merry Christmas.
Tune in next week to see the Headshrinkers, Tatanka, and Razor Ramon in action! Also, more wrestlers will be announced for the Royal Rumble!
The Last Word: The two big names announced for the Royal Rumble were the Undertaker and Yokozuna, both of whom have credible chances to win because of the strong pushes that they have received. The clown also continues to play pranks without any response so it is just a matter of time before something happens to get him into the ring.
