CAPAC Chair Statement on Confirmation of Judge Jennifer Sung to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit

December 15, 2021

Washington, D.C. —  Today, the Senate confirmed Judge Jennifer Sung to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She will be the first AAPI judge from Oregon on the Ninth Circuit. Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who has written in support of Judge Sung in the past, issued the following statement:

“I am thrilled that Judge Jennifer Sung has been confirmed to the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Oregon, and thus becoming the first AAPI judge from Oregon. Her addition to the court is another step forward in increasing representation within our judiciary, so that our justice system can reflect the diverse populations it serves. As a labor lawyer and former union organizer, Judge Sung will be an essential voice for workers thanks to her years of experience with the Oregon Employment Relations Board and as a private litigator. I am pleased that my colleagues in the Senate have confirmed her nomination.”
