A moody, contemporary-gothic chiller that goes nowhere satisfyingly compelling, "Jennifer's Shadow" (aka "Chronicle of the Raven") consists of solid pieces that do not make much of a whole. The plot centers around a young woman who travels to Argentina to take over her recently deceased sister's house. A cantankerous grandmother, ravens that attack one's internal organs while one sleeps, and a purported curse get in the way of a smooth transition of home ownership.
The story moves in fits and stops, ultimately progressing at the speed of dull. While the locations are effective, and the film generates evocative atmosphere, "Jennifer's Shadow" is let down by the lackluster narrative. There is a certain old-fashioned, horror film charm to the entire affair, but it is superficial and burns off quickly as the film goes through it motions. "Jennifer's Shadow" is not a terrible effort overall, it simply lacks the pulse needed to make it interesting.
