Jen Psaki owns Jim Jordan for trying to blame rising gas prices on Biden
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki usually defends the Biden administration’s policies from her perch in the briefing room of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but today she made a foray onto Twitter to defend the president’s economic policies from the ignorant trolling of Congressman Jom Jordan (R-OH).
Representative Jordan has long been among the most right-wing members of Congress as a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and is perhaps most famous for refusing to wear a suit jacket while on the House floor and for his failure to report the sexual abuse of college wrestlers by the team physician while he was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University.
As is typical of Republicans now in the minority in Congress, Jordan has been more focused on scoring propaganda points on Fox News programs and on social media than in his responsibilities as a lawmaker since the Biden administration ushered out his role model Donald Trump from the presidency.
In that spirit, Rep. Jordan took to Twitter this morning to blame President Biden for the surging fuel prices Americans are facing now that the pandemic oil glut is over and people are heading back out on the road for the summer.
Average gas price:
June 2020: $2.21
June 2021: $3.07President Biden’s economy!

It didn’t take the Press Secretary long to see Jordan’s tweet and set the record straight with the context that Jordan ignored in his political broadside.

Psaki’s reminder that Jordan and his GOP cronies kept silent on exorbitant gas prices when they reached the same level during the Trump administration points to the cynical and hypocritical nature of Jordan’s post.

Psaki’s deft parrying of the reactionary congressman is one of the reasons that she has been lauded for her performance as Press Secretary and earned her a bevy of praise in the comments section of her tweet.

Meanwhile, those of us who live in California where the average gas prices are closer to (or above) the four-dollar mark would are green with envy over the prospect of a $3.07 price tag per gallon.
Unfortunately, cheap gas prices only encourage the use of vehicles that burn fossil fuels and slow the necessary transition to the electric vehicles we need to help contain the climate crisis.
At some point, the cost of future environmental damage needs to be factored into the price of a gallon of gas so the people who use dirty fuels contribute to the cost of their convenience.
