Jean-Charles Castelletto has called on Cameroon to show the same mindset at the 2022 World Cup that they had in Algeria to qualify for the global showpiece.

The Indomitable Lions overturned a 1-0 deficit against the Fennec Foxes in the playoffs to win on away goals as they made it to the tournament for a record eighth time.

Cameroon president Paul Biya sent a message of support to the national team ahead of their Group G opener against Switzerland on Friday, urging them to show that fighting spirit that was on display against the Algerians in March.

“The message of our president is a great gesture. He has confidence in us. It is up to us to earn this belief from him and Cameroonians. We need a state of mind like in Blida,” Castelletto said at a press conference in Qatar.

Rigobert Song’s side haven’t been in the best of form since the playoffs, conceding in each of their subsequent four friendlies, which failed to produce any victories.

Castelletto is not concerned about their defensive problems, however, insisting the team will get it right as long as they remain united.

“Together we all bring what we have to the team. Together we are always stronger. I hope that your concerns will be extinguished during these matches. We win and we lose together,” the 27-year-old centre-back said.
