Aston Villa backed to sign Jan Bednarek replacement after deal agreed – expert

Alan Hutton has suggested Aston Villa will bring in a replacement for Jan Bednarek after his loan spell was cut short.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa defender insisted returning to Southampton was the best decision for both Bednarek and Aston Villa.

On Monday (23 January), the Villans confirmed that the 26-year-old has returned to St Mary’s after joining Villa on loan in the summer.

The defender made just four appearances for Unai Emery’s side during his brief loan spell.

Hutton suggested cutting the loan short was the best decision for both clubs.

Nathan Jones has come in and he is analysing his team all the time,” he told Football Insider.

They are down at the bottom so he probably needs his own reinforcements. Why have a player at another team that is not playing when you could be using him within your squad to help.

It probably makes sense, he did not really get the game time. He was in for cover if we actually look at it. Konsa and Mings have now stepped up, they have got Chambers there. So they are not in a bad situation.

You probably think the manager might look to bring somebody in as well. So it suits everybody for him to return to his actual club.

Bednarek made 31 league appearances for the Saints during the 2021-22 season.

He scored four goals during those outings.

In other news, according to sources, Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are set to personally bankroll £100m Aston Villa makeover.
