Pop Staples and Steve Cropper accompany Albert King. If you know who they are, you know just how great this collection is. I'd never heard of this set before, but it is a classic, of course, I think anything with Pop Staples or Steve Cropper rates a classic

It was delivered on time. The music on the disc and the mastering are both great.

Liked it, bought it , played it and then wasn't too sure why l liked initially. With repeat listenings tho it tends to grow on one and some songs stay with you where you can't get them out of your head. Very enjoyable and sounds much better to me than the Steve Cropper solo albums. Pop Staples does an admirable job, especially lyrically, Steve is in his element here and Albert King...well, if you like Albert King at all, then this is a great addition to his catalog of fine albums. Nice that this particular recording finally came to light after being shelved for so long. Albert's guitar gets a little whiney at one part but his playing is powerful as always, yet it tends to overpower the others at times. When they gel together it is hard to beat. Very enjoyable listening and the minor complaints can be overlooked easily. Overall a very fine recording by some very adept musicians. Will make a superb addition to any Blues collection.

Pops Staples, Steve Cropper, Albert King-- "jammed together". Listen to "Tupelo" and "Don't Turn Your Heater Down". Great stuff, and lots more on this CD.

I'm going through a Pop Staples phase right now so to hear him with 2 other masters is a gift indeed. I love it!!

Good Stuff
Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2002
Three masters, jamming loosely on a throwaway recording destined for the cutout bin. Fans of Pops Staples may be disappointed because the feel is more garage than church. Pops does get a chance to stroll through a casual version of John Lee Hooker's "Tupelo," sermonizing in much the same way as on his "Miss Cocaine" from Peace to the Neighborhood. Mostly Pops is in the background, playing shimmering tremolo backup guitar for Cropper and King solos. The overall recording sounds dated rather than timeless, but with some of the production credits by Isaac Hayes and Booker T. Jones, and some classic horn arrangements (as on "Don't Turn Your Heater Down"), it's of archival interest to the serious collector of Memphis Soul. Nice café background music, with some nice grooves and shining moments, but nothing that really sticks with you.

Albert King + Pops Stapes + Steve Cropper = Even MORE than you'd expect!!! You can hear the FUN these 3 fantastic artists were having playing together in the recording studio. Step back in time to 1969 for a truly LOVELY album from a completely 'alternative Super-Group'. It's NOT flashy!!! It's NOT flamboyant!!! It IS FUN!!! It exudes mutual respect, friendship and the simple joy of just playing together with understated excellence. JAMMED together is TRULY what it is!!!

Magnifique
