Jamie Lee Curtis has conceded that she’ll probably never appear in a Marvel movie. This is largely because the Everything Everywhere All at Once star has devoted much of her recent Instagram activity to playfully beefing with another film set in multiple parallel universes: Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In a series of posts on Friday, Curtis critiqued everything from the franchise sequel’s poster to its blockbuster-sized budget. “Is it JUST me? Does it seem STRANGE that our tiny movie that could and did and continues to do #1movieinamerica and is TRULY MARVELOUS, out marvels any Marvel movie they put out there @everythingeverywheremovie has a Marvel movie coming out with a copycat poster?” she captioned a side-by-side image of the two posters. Curtis then questioned if this is “one of those Internet feuds” and wagered that her film’s cast and crew, including star Michelle Yeoh (who appeared in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), would “slay” that of Doctor Strange in a Family Feud contest.
Curtis wrote in a follow-up post that Doctor Strange’s sequel is missing “a dynamite dildo fight scene as well as a very erotic hotdog mating dance,” both of which happen in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She also said that her film “has a deep BEATING heart and BRILLIANT visual treats, EXTRAORDINARY performances and FANTASTIC BEASTLY FIGHT SCENES……AND it COST LESS than the ENTIRE craft service budget on Doctor Strange and/or any other Marvel movie.” (Everything Everywhere All at Once’s budget was reportedly around $25 million, while Doctor Strange rang in at an estimated $200 million.) “COMPETITIVE? Fuck YES. I wasn’t head cheerleader in high school for nothing” Curtis added alongside the hashtag: #guessiwillneverbecastinamarvelmovie.

Curtis’s impassioned, often capitalized musings came just before Doctor Strange’s opening-weekend box office boom. It earned $185 million domestically and $265 million overseas, according to Variety. Meanwhile, Everything Everywhere All at Once crossed the $40 million mark in its sixth week of release, crowning it A24’s third-highest domestic earner just behind Lady Bird and Uncut Gems.
On Monday, Curtis kept the feud going. She seemingly managed to tuck a Doctor Strange dig into a post about kindness, writing, “Kindness. Simple kindness to others. The center of the miraculous little movie that is making its way into the cinema consciousness of the world is KINDNESS. It makes all of the other swirl and twirl of green screen offerings seem artificial.” Marvel has yet to engage with the feud in this universe—or any other (that we know of).
