The Reckoning Kindle Edition

The international bestselling author of Dark Visions“writes like a man possessed” as a worldwide conspiracy and religious mystery unfold (Steve Jackson, New York Times bestselling author).

HAUNTED BY HIS PAST

In a world ruled by the purest survivors, the fiercest warriors, Gage was the strongest—an American executing his country’s darkest missions with legendary cunning and skill. Until, wounded and dying in a scorched wasteland, he found mercy at the hands of an aging priest.

Separated from the secret world he once dominated, he chose a life of exile, pursuing a lonely peace, a solitary faith. Only the murder of his mentor and the mysterious theft of an ancient manuscript can compel him to emerge from solitude.

HUNTED BY A DEADLY FORCE

Now his greatest battle begins. From the shadowed streets of New York to the inner recesses of the Vatican and beyond, he challenges the awesome might of an ageless evil. Bound by a promise to a dying friend, he wages war once more in the dark world he left behind.

Hi guys,

This is James Byron Huggins. I've been an international bestselling thriller writer for almost twenty years, but I had to take a break from writing because they turned several of my novels into movies, and that was time consuming. Now, I'm back to writing new thrillers. If you do a quick google search on me you'll see that I write Tom Clancy, Rambo, First Blood, Dracula-type thrillers. Almost all have a significant horror element. And all of them are pure hell-bent-for-leather across the landscape hair-raising thrillers. You see, I've been an international smuggler of vitally needed information, a police officer, and a detective, so I've seen a lot of life and death - a lot of action in my life. So it's one of my natural habits to not have a single dull page in one of my books. Even just ordinary life is more exciting than that. In any case, my newest brand new work comes out in July/2018. It's called DARK VISIONS, and there's more to come this year. I hope you take a look and see if it fits your taste. If not, keep reading something else! Because I do believe we learn more from well-written fiction than any other form of writing.

Best of life to every one of you,

Sincerely,

James Byron Huggins

James Byron Huggins never fails to entertain and intrigue his readers and this tome is no different. A roller coaster ride of thrills and chills with wonderful, engaging characters and a plot that just never stops producing page turning suspense. It's not hard to suspend disbelief when reading Huggins....and I own quite a few of his hardbacks. Since switching to my Kindle I'd forgotten about Huggins until Amazon recommended one of his books based on my past purchases. I was delighted to discover he had a few books I hadn't read yet - Reckoning being one of them. I quickly purchased and spent quite a few hours devouring this book...now I'm going back for the others I missed and looking forward to his next publication. If you like James Rollins and Jeremy Robinson - you'll love Huggins. Try Reckoning, Cain or Hunter by Huggins and you'll be hooked just like this voracious reader in foggy San Francisco.

I like Mr. Huggins work. Wasn't into military-type heroes, but the first of his works that I read was Cain. Instantly hooked, I'm afraid. Don't think he has many 67 year old ladies that read his stuff, but I'm a fan. Lots of technical stuff about weaponry, equipment, etc, but I find the plots and the protagonists fascinating. I've gone through Cain, Nightbringer, Dark Vision and Leviathan, as well as The Reckoning, and have just purchased Crux. That tell you anything? Giggle, giggle.

This is actually a 5 star book. One of the best books I've ever read. The story is engaging and fast paced. As I read this book, I can see the action sequences in my mind as though I'm watching a movie. There are few books that do that for me.

The loss of one star is due to the fact that the Kindle version omits the prologue which I think is important to the story. I am totally disappointed. Why don't the publishers (and Amazon) include the full book in the Kindle version? I waited anxiously for this book to come out in a digital format and grabbed it up as soon as it became available, only to find that it was incomplete.

If you've never read the book, I recommend getting a hard copy of the book. You can get one for less than the Kindle version and will get the whole story. It is definitely worth reading!

(I would very much like to see this come out as an audiobook as well but hope that they will correct the prologue issue first.)

I have enjoyed every one of James Byron Huggins’ Books!! However, this is my favorite. Have had it in hardback for years & return to it when I want a really good read. One reviewer stated that was an early work of Huggins & it shows. The reader was confused by the beginning. I disagree completely. To me, this is Huggins Best, except for perhaps, “Wolf Story”. That stands on it’s own. “The Reckoning” reveals a lot of what is in Huggins himself. Namely, he has a strong faith in our creator & he believes one stands for right no matter the cost. He KNOWS there is Evil in the world & one must stand against it. I am convinced he himself has done that & his portrayal of it in his writing is enjoyable as well as fascinating. His characters that one can like, always have integrity & courage. Huggins creates his villains from some interesting backgrounds & gives absolute page turners if one likes action at all. At heart, we all know there is true evil in the world. Most of us want to see it defeated - at least, I hope we do. I am happy to now have a copy on my iPhone. Good reading!!👍

James does an incredible job of writing in a way that leaves you on the edge of your seat, turning pages late into the night! The level of detail and knowledge of battle, tactics, and weaponry makes you feel like you are there. And his wrestling with faith is shown as you read the depth that he understands a relationship with our creator. Looking forward to more books to come!

Could have been a great book but ended up a good book. Very hard to put down but at times just never gets to the main point. It never really comes all together. It hints at supernatural and scary things but then goes into more fighting scenes. I wanted more.

This book is something you guys should read, but women will get a lot out of it also. Huggins wrote this as a novel, but I think he has the heart of a philosopher. You want to know how violence and morality can exist at the same time in the same person? There are some very deep thoughts on it in here. Also why the, "...argument that all violence wrong is not only unbiblical, it is immoral." I would really recommend this book to anyone but I think that people in law enforcement and the military will get a lot out of it

What a story!! Add to that outstanding apologetics and it makes for a great novel. I gave it four stars, because I was lost for the first four chapters. If the reviews had not been so glowing, I would have put it down. Some structural defects and overly descriptive language detract a bit. But once you are into the story, that is easy to forgive. I recommend it to everyone!!
