Condolences.
Veteran soap opera writer Barbara Esensten has passed away. The former journalist entered the world of soaps as a writer for “Dynasty” in 1987. It was there that she began her two decade long collaboration with James Harmon Brown. The pair moved across Daytime in the years to come.
After creating the soaps “Loving” and “The City,” they became Head Writers for “Guiding Light.” The decade they spent on that series was controversial, thanks to stories like the cloning of Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer). They went on to “Port Charles” to bring vampires back to Daytime, a brief stint at “One Life To Live” and then briefly worked at “DOOL” in 2007 before leaving to work on “All My Children” until the show’s cancellation.
Esensten passed away on Wednesday November 14. Soaps.com sends our condolences to her family and friends. Former “Guiding Light” writer Jill Lorie Hurst tweeted:
