Stupid Question: what the fuck happened with Jaime Pressly’s career???

This boggles my mind.

She’s a good actress with great comedic delivery and looks IDENTICAL to another actress who is way less talented that is now one of the highest paid actresses working today.

It makes no sense to me at all.

Why did she never go past the Sitcom phase?

Shit like this makes me seriously question the casting process, not that it didn’t merit it before…

Her and Jon Favreau’s scenes as the miserable couple in I Love You Man are incredible

I was looking for this! So good

I’ll have a scotch on the rocks and something with sour mix in it for her

"Smells like a fuckin' pet shop in here"

"He has a jewfro and a small dick"

Both of them constantly deliver bangers in that movie.

Absolutely.

“I’ve never met Peter” is a staple in our house whenever one of us brings up someone the other person can’t remember

I don’t think she sucks his dick.

Miserable? I remember them having an enviable relationship.

Exactly what I was thinking….you can’t get to that level of contempt without a lot of love.

Plus wild make up sex? I’d be looking for reasons to fight.

She had a kid and her priorities changed. She took less work, and did sitcoms because it allowed a more stable life for her and her family.

u/Birthday_Tux avatar

Good for her.

Thats the answer for nearly every 'whatever happened to..." question about actors & actresses.

Making TV & movies takes long hours & dedication, and not everyone wants that because they have other priorities. She probably just made a pile of cash and decided to take smaller parts so she could focus on other things

Rick Moranis is probably the highest profile one - his wife's death really shifted his priorities.

My hero.

I think it was her getting sick. I thought he left the box before she died. Basically was the top billed dude at the time, Wild. Fun fact: he has two albums out. Pretty fun listening

You talking - The Agoraphobic cowboy?

I’m not sure I agree with that. Hollywood is crazy fickle. They say actors have about 7 movies (or a certain amount of years, whichever) before Hollywood/the audiences move on from them. Some of these actors who had so many successful roles just can’t find work after a while, so take sitcom roles or something stable. Take Matt Lillard for example.

u/noonereadsthisstuff avatar

Imdb has him working pretty solidly, but mostly in voice roles.

He's probably someone else who didnt want to give up his whole life for his career.

He’s said the opposite, actually. He was really emotional about it in a podcast I was listening to. He was on fire during Summer Catch, Without a Paddle, etc. then he was able to get the Scooby movies, but the roles just stopped coming for him.

Truly not an uncommon story in Hollywood.

Expecially for actresses.

Yup.

And most of the time if you look at their IMDB page they are still doing 1-2 jobs a year.

I think the life of a Hollywood star is hard for people to understand.

JP could work at making disposable movies, or raise her fam. Not a hard choice.

Except for a large percent that refused taking showers with Harvey. Sadly that is a reason for many many.

Hey! Don’t you bring a sensible answer to this discussion! This is Reddit!!

u/January1252024 avatar

As soon as I read OP's question, I said to myself, she probably had a kid. That's like the #1 reason for most B list actresses.

u/Kniefjdl avatar

Or they age out of roles that Hollywood is willing to give them. OP didn’t mention that Margot Robbie is 13 years younger than Jaime Pressly.

u/myphriendmike avatar

Op is asking why she faded out 13 years ago. Obviously she’s not getting Margot’s parts today.

She also had a DUI which hurt her career Jamie pressly DUI

u/PolitelyHostile avatar

Oh please, rape barely affects actors careers but a DUI supposedly does?

u/clarko420 avatar

Robert downey jr went to jail for dui and drugs and ended up alright. Matthew Broderick killed two people in 1987 and he barely got a slap on the wrist.

It was pretty surprising to everyone that Downey Jr. made a comeback. He was bonkers out of control in the 90s. He was so drugged out insane that Charlie Sheen would have told him to dial it back

She's fucking hilarious In my name is earl.

She's good in Mom too. And let's not forget Joe Dirt. She's a good actress and she was just type cast as the hot redneck. But she's made a great career around it. It definitely should've been better.

Not Another Teen Movie, and The Jerry Springer Movie she was… something else entirely

Wrong accent. Didn’t get cast in a Scorsese or other prestige pic early in her career

Which is crazy right? Have you ever heard Andrew Lincoln in walking dead? I would never think he would actually talk differently but it’s crazy, his original accent is so British. Does it come down to skill? Is she just lazy and never learned the skill of a different accent?!

A lot of people from the UK would have known Andrew Lincoln from a comedy show called Teachers long before The Walking Dead so it was just as crazy for us to see him pulling off a southern American accent as it was for you guys when you realised he's actually English.

u/stay_hungry_dr_ew avatar

It’s a mishmash southern accent that doesn’t seem to come from any specific southern region, and definitely doesn’t sound like he’s from Georgia. I won’t speak for anyone else, but that’s when I figured he was probably British.

Funny southern accent? Actor I’m not acquainted with? Probably British.

Makes sense. From what I've read, the one British actor who seemed to nail a localised accent was Matthew McFadyen in Succession. According to a few people from the Succession sub, apart from one or two very minor slips he developed a specific Minnesotan accent extremely well.

Where do they say Cooorall?

Agreed. Being from Georgia, one can spot the various dialects pretty quickly. I get an uncanny valley effect listening to actors/actresses attempt to speak with a Southern accent who either aren't from the area or just can't quite get it.

The funniest bit is that He kept talking in the same accent on the set because it was strenuous than switch back to his real accent. He mentioned that one of his colleagues freaked out when he heard him speak with his real accent for the first time.
