In the days since news of Alec Musser’s January 12 death, more than a few of those with whom he worked over the years have found themselves with more questions than answers. After all, the former All My Children star was only 50 years old and in what appeared to be excellent physical shape. Among those left reflecting on the late actor’s passing was Jacob Young, who of course played JR opposite Musser’s Del.

“I spoke with Alec several times a year, every year,” Bold & Beautiful‘s erstwhile Rick said during a recent chat with us. Both men, as fate would have it, followed paths which led them to the same state for at least part of the year. “He had a place in Utah, so whenever he’d come to Utah, I’d meet up with him. We always stayed in touch since our All My Children days.”

In fact, the pair did much more than simply stay in touch. “He was at my wedding,” shared Young. During the early days of Young’s courtship with his now-wife, Christen, “we would all go out in New York City. We’d go out to dinners, and we really got to know each other during those years.”

Having maintained that bond long after their Pine Valley days had come to an end, Young admitted that his pal’s death was “heartbreaking.” And that pain is only compounded by the other losses suffered by the daytime community over the past few months. “This has been a tough time as far as soap actors who’ve recently passed,” he sighed. “Billy Miller, Jackie Zeman, the list goes on, sadly.”

Death is also, he acknowledged, a part of life. “It’s always strange that when you get to a certain age, and my parents talked about it, you just start losing friends. But I didn’t think that about Alec, who was the epitome of health and fitness. He just seemed indestructible, and for something like this to happen… “

Echoing the sentiments expressed by so many, including us, Young said that Musser’s  “loved ones are in my prayers, and I am sending my well wishes. My heart goes out to his family.”

Join us in sharing a moment of silence in honor of these other daytimers we lost too soon as memorialized in the photo gallery below.
