Aston Villa: Yet another 'disaster' for Jacob Ramsey

Aston Villa: Yet another ‘disaster’ for Jacob Ramsey after what Unai Emery told media

Dan Bardell isn’t surprised to see the news that Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey will miss the rest of the season.

It was confirmed by Unai Emery on 5 April that Ramsey, 22, will not feature competitively until next season due to a foot injury [The Athletic].

This season has been superb for the Villans who are firmly in the running for a Champions League spot with limited time left in the Premier League.

Emery has performed miracles given his squad has been ravaged by injury, beginning in pre-season and continuing throughout.

This has seen stars like Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings miss the whole season with Boubacar Kamara and now Ramsey out for the remainder. Bardell believes that the latter hasn’t been himself even when he has featured.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It’s been a disaster of a season for Jacob Ramsey, almost been a complete write-off. I was surprised to learn he’s appeared in like 21 games this season which felt high and you can say he’s appeared in 21 games but he hasn’t been the Jacob Ramsey of last season who was so brilliant.

Every time he’s come back he’s just broke down with an injury again and it’s just something that hasn’t managed to be resolved all the way through the season.

For Villa to be where they are without having had Buendia, Mings, I would class it as not having Ramsey for the whole season because every time he’s come back, as I say, he’s ended up getting injured again and just as you felt he might be getting back to the old Jacob Ramsey he disappears again so I’m not surprised to see him ruled out for the season because its just the way the season’s gone.

It’s meant that Rogers, who I think’s done quite well, he’s kind of had to be expedited in the first team because of there being no Ramsey and he’s probably the most similar player Villa have on their books.”

How has Jacob Ramsey performed for Aston Villa?

It has been a shame for the attacking midfielder who has failed to truly have an impact on the Villa team this season. Ramsey, 22, has played just 16 times in the Premier League where he has contributed to one goal and one assist [FotMob].

This is a far cry from the season prior where, according to the Premier League website, he contributed to six goals and seven assists in 35 games.

Under Emery’s tutelage, he was looking as if he was realising his potential with some great performances as Villa secured a Conference League spot. He came off for England during the Under-21s EURO’s during the summer and hasn’t found consistent fitness since.

As Bardell said, this has forced Rogers into the limelight who has gotten better week on week since his move from Middlesbrough.

He has a goal and assist of his own in just five Premier League starts [FotMob] but has shown his quality with his versatile performance against Arsenal.

It is frustrating that Ramsey has missed out so much but there are silver linings and the Englishman will be like a new season next campaign.
