The preparations of Aston Villa for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Arsenal have been bolstered by a double injury boost, as first-teamers Matt Cash and Clement Lenglet have made their return to training, signalling their potential availability for Sunday’s highly anticipated match at the Emirates Stadium.

Cash, who had been sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the March international break, and Lenglet, absent from the last two fixtures due to a minor issue, joined the squad for Friday’s training session, raising hopes of their inclusion in the lineup against Arsenal.

Speaking on the return of the duo, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery expressed optimism about their fitness levels, stating, “We will train tomorrow and today we recovered with some players. Lenglet and Cash have trained today with the group. We will work tomorrow again and we will see how they feel. We will then take a decision on the players tomorrow ahead of Sunday.”

While the return of Cash and Lenglet provides a significant boost to Villa’s defensive options, the team will be without Douglas Luiz, who is serving a two-match suspension. Additionally, Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara remain sidelined for the remainder of the season, further underscoring the importance of having key players back in contention for the Arsenal clash.

Emery, who previously managed Arsenal from 2018 to 2019 and secured a victory against his former club in a December meeting, emphasised that past results will not impact the upcoming fixture. The Spanish tactician is focused on the present and ensuring his team is prepared to face Arsenal in what promises to be a crucial match for both sides in the race for Premier League points.

Aston Villa’s resurgence in recent weeks, including a 2-1 victory over Lille in the Europa Conference League quarter-final, highlights their momentum heading into the Arsenal encounter. With the return of Cash and Lenglet adding depth to the squad, Emery’s side will look to continue their positive run and secure a valuable result against Arsenal on Sunday.
