Aston Villa transfer news: Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey react as player leaves Villa

Morgan Sanson has left Aston Villa on loan to join Ligue 1 side Strasbourg after a dismal time at Villa Park following his move to the club from Marseille – and Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey have reacted to the midfielder’s Instagram post.

Sanson, 28, joined Villa from Marseille in January 2021 after starring for one of France’s biggest clubs. Clocking up a huge 157 appearances for Marseille, France U21 man Sanson had a hand in 47 goals during his time at the French side.

But a move to Villa did not go to plan. Costing £16m, Sanson managed just 23 outings in league and cup. He scored his only goal during Unai Emery’s era, lashing an effort in against Stevenage in the FA Cup. Of course, a game Villa lost.

Now, Sanson has ended his spell at Villa – at least, temporarily. He has joined Strasbourg on loan, though a deal is not thought to include a permanent clause. Perhaps, more of a move to show French football what he is still capable of.

Sanson took to Instagram to share his delight at returning to his home country and for now, putting his Villa nightmare behind him. Clearly, he is excited at the prospect of playing regular football again – after just 23 games in two years.

Sanson has really struggled. The likes of Jacob Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho, Emi Buendia and John McGinn have kept the French midfielder out of the side. Despite his form in France, he has simply not been able to break into the team.

There was a bit of hope that Emery might given his chance. A sub outing in Emery’s first game against Manchester United. A sub outing against Leeds, and starting against Stevenage – and scoring. But he has now left the club on loan.

Both Ramsey and Digne have responded to his post.
